Meshuggah Announces Exclusive Signing and Limited-Edition Transformers Collaboration at San Diego Comic-Con

MESHUGGAH members Tomas Haake and Mårten Hagström will make a special appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, signing for fans at the Reigning Phoenix Music/Stern Pinball booth, #4029, on Friday, July 24, at 3:30 p.m.

The appearance will coincide with the unveiling of a limited-edition MESHUGGAH x Hasbro’s Transformers T-shirt, created to celebrate four decades of The Transformers: The Movie and three decades of MESHUGGAH’s seminal album Destroy Erase Improve.

The collaboration draws inspiration from the transformation of Megatron in the 1986 animated film. After being destroyed in battle by Optimus Prime, Megatron is betrayed by Starscream and cast into space, before being rebuilt by Unicron as Galvatron, a narrative progression that mirrors the title Destroy Erase Improve.

“Big machinery. Massive destruction. Reconfiguration. A pretty accurate analogy to our sound, is it not?” says Mårten Hagström.

The limited-edition design brings together two influential forces in music and pop culture, connecting the mechanical destruction and transformation of the Transformers universe with the precision, power and constant evolution of MESHUGGAH’s sound. The artwork was done by renowned Transformers and G.I.JOE artist, Ken Christiansen. (@ken_christiansen_art ) Ken has spent over a decade shaping the Transformers franchise's visual identity for Hasbro and Activision, from Generations toy packaging and Covenant of Primus lore art to Transformers video game concept art and IDW comic covers.

Ken comments, "Two of my favorite things are Transformers and metal music, when the chance came up to combine the two, how could I pass that up?  And to do it for a killer band like MESHUGGAH, can't get much better."

Reigning Phoenix Music will also celebrate the band’s anniversary remastered reissues of Destroy Erase Improve and Catch Thirtythree with San Diego Comic-Con-exclusive splatter vinyl variants of both releases.

Fans attending the signing will have the opportunity to meet Tomas Haake and Mårten Hagström and explore the exclusive merchandise and vinyl offerings available at the booth.

About MESHUGGAH:

Formed in Umeå, Sweden in 1987, MESHUGGAH have spent more than three decades redefining the outer limits of heavy music. Known for their groundbreaking use of complex polyrhythms, down-tuned guitars, dissonant atmospheres, and surgically precise execution, the band has become one of the most influential forces in extreme and progressive metal.

Across their catalog, MESHUGGAH have continually pushed their sound forward, from the technical thrash foundations of their earliest work to the genre-altering breakthroughs of Destroy Erase Improve, Chaosphere, Nothing, Catch Thirtythree, obZen, and beyond. Their music has had a profound impact on modern metal, inspiring generations of artists and helping shape the rhythmic vocabulary later associated with the djent movement, while remaining unmistakably singular in vision and execution.

Rather than following trends, MESHUGGAH have built an entire language of their own: mechanical yet human, cerebral yet crushing, and as hypnotic as it is devastating. With a reputation for uncompromising innovation and formidable live performances, MESHUGGAH continue to stand as one of the most original, challenging, and revered bands in heavy music.

I am a HUGE fan of horror T-shirt company Fright-Rags and own many of their shirts (like the Predator tank-top that I am wearing in this video). At this past Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, at Monster-Mania, I got to interview the owner and founder of the company, Ben Scrivens. We talked about a couple of subjects related to the company and their shirts, including some very cool upcoming releases.

Toy Fair 2013 Pt. 1

This was my 3rd year doing Toy Fair, and also the longest amount of time I ever spent there, as I ended up doing a whopping three days! Though, I must admit by day three my friends and I were kinda done with it... But, for the other two days, it was fun and great to see a lot of the toys. Here is the first of many reports:

Let's begin with some plush dolls, to show that this site isn't always blood, guts, and boobs. I must admit to loving Pokemon, back in the day. I still have a sort of soft spot for it. Enough so that I give you some Pokemon toys, from this booth, that surely will make fans of Pikachu and friends wanna "catch em all"!

In keeping with the cute video game theme, here is some Mario Bros. plush dolls at another booth.

 Gotta love that Bowser!!!

And, now on too some more booth specific reporting:

First off, there was the Kid Robot booth. These guys have some great high end toys. I actually left that booth wanting to buy some. Maybe I will someday. I know those of you who are fans of theirs don't need convincing to buy thier product, but here you go anyway:

The Cartman is based on an upcoming upcoming line, that in turn is based on a upcoming video game. The Homer is just fucking sweet!

One, of my favorite booths had to be The Loyal Subjects. These guys are doing awesome G.I. Joe and Transformers toys. There is no better way to get my geekgasm going, than with these two great franchises!!

The packaging on these little guys is similar to the classic toy packing of the Hasbro action figures. You won't know who you get when you buy one.
But, I do know that I want the above hooded Cobra Commander!! COOOBBRRRAAA!!!!!!
Aww, Grimlock and Soundwave never looked cuter!
They ain't just doing these litte figures but tees and skateboards as well!!
While, I don't skate, I do like skateboards. And, these are as fuckin cool as they get! Cobra Commander FTW!
Megatron the Decepitcons' ruthless leader is one of the great shirts that they will be releasing!
I think this Soundwave one is my favorite, though. Soundwave is the communication's expert for the Decepitcons and has an undying loyality to Megatron.

Chiller Theatre April 2012

Another Chiller has passed us by. But, what a time it was! While, I may not have gone up to as many celebs as I have in the past, I can tell you that I had the most fun, I ever have! And, I have been going to this event for years!

My friend Alan picked up Baldwin and I early in the morning. Then we met up with Pat. And, a little later I met up with Kristie, Kristin P., Mike, and Erika. This meant that at this Chiller, I had myself an entourage of the most awesome friends and fellow fans, ever!

The first celeb I went up to was the lovely Melina, former WWE women's champion. She was sitting there with the very sweet and beautiful Rosita of TNA. Rosita wasn't signing sadly, as she was just sitting in with her friend. Regardless, they both talked up a storm with Erika and me and were sweethearts. The internet loves to talk to talk shit, but I am here to say that Melina is so sweet and nice, in person. Both of them were.

The first celeb I actually payed to meet was Lilian Gracia, who has sung the National Anthem at WWE events and was/ sometimes still is a ring-announcer for them. She was also very sweet and friendly and happy to talk to us. We got a Polaroid with her.

The only other celeb I met was Maryam D'Abo who was one of my fav Bond girls growing up. She signed my DVD of The Living Daylights, which is easily my fav Timothy Dalton Bond film. She said she had never seen this release, in particular. I told her it was an older rerelease, 2007 to be precise, and that I had gotten it as a birthday gift.

Between the fun we had lunch, hung around the con, and bought lots of cool shit. I got myself a stunning Suspiria t-shirt from a guy who was selling his art. I have seen his art in Horrorhound and Rue Morgue magazines. Amazing! I also bought myself, a Blue Velvet tee. I saw that shirt at a horror tee site and wanted it as soon as I saw it. When, I spotted it towards the end of the con itself, when Kristin D. got herself a sweet Misfits tee, I had to buy it. It took them a while to find my size, but they eventually did. Rejoice!! I also got blu-rays of Zombie, Intruder, Thou Shalt Not Kill... Except!, and Frankenhooker.

Finally the party came and we partied harder than anyone!! I mean we had a fucking blast!!!! And, of course the Dead Elvi kicked fucking ass.  At one point Bebe Buell joined them onstage. She has a great voice!!

In all, I had such a fucking blast that this one will go down in history. Cause, hanging with your closet and best friends at one of the best cons in the world is gonna always mean total and complete epicness!! Here's to the next one!!!
