New Jersey Horror Con March 2023

On the weekend of March 25, 2023, my friend Freddie and I headed out to the latest edition of New Jersey Horror Con. The weather was kinda shitty, and seemingly impacted the amount of fans in attendance. But, we had a great time regardless and met a bunch of cool celebs.

The first one I went up to was the lovely Nancy Loomis. Best known for playing Annie in John Carpenter's Halloween, she's also appeared in other favorites like The Fog and Assault on Precinct 13 (both also from Carpenter). She was the person, I must looked forward to meeting the most. She is, after all, my favorite of the three girls in the slasher classic. She was very sweet in person and talked to both of us for a good amount of time. We also learned that she teaches theater acting nowadays.

Next was John Dugan who played grandpa in Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and a couple of its sequels. He was awesome and an absolute riot in person! He talked to us for a good amount of time, as well, telling us about what an absolute hell it was to shoot the classic dinner scene in TCM. And, then he even broke into a song, something about me, Gio, and us drinking cheap wine. Dude is one of the coolest celebs ever!

Tom O'Connell played Darth Vader in the recent Obi-Wan Kenobi series; a show I really enjoyed. And, as some of you probably know, I am a lifelong Star Wars fan. Something I let him know. He smiled and said he was too! He was really nice, and it's great to meet someone who played the latest incarnation of one of my favorite characters (one I cosplayed as some years ago). And, before you ask, yes I did meet David Prowse, who originally played Vader, many years ago at a Fangoria Weekend of Horrors.

Mike Hughes is someone I've wanted to meet forever. He of course played Gage in the original Pet Sementary, a movie I like. But, it's really for his role as Heather Langenkamp's son in Wes Craven's New Nightmare, a movie I love. He was a really nice and friendly guy, in person.

The last person that I went up to was Eileen Dietz who was the face, in make-up, of course, of Pazuzu, in the horror masterpiece The Exorcist. She was incredibly sweet in person and talked to us for a good chunk of time. Turns out she is a fellow New Yorker! It is so rare to get anyone from William Friedkin's classic, that isn't Linda Blair, to appear at a con. And, being how much I adore that movie, that I was pumped to meet her!

That was a way to end the con on a high note for us. After walking around for a bit more, we headed home. I didn't buy any merch, but I did get three of my movies from my collection signed:
Nancy Loomis: Halloween
Eileen Dietz: The Exorcist
John Dugan: The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Next up for us, will probably be Chiller at the end of this month. Any of you going to that? Did you go to this con? What were thoughts and experiences at it? Let me know in the comments section below.

This Halloween, the Soska Sisters' Third Original Horror Film, ON THE EDGE, Will Have Its World Premiere at Frightfest!

Beloved guests of FRIGHTFEST, the iconic Canadian twin filmmaking team, the Soska Sisters, return this Halloween with tricks and treats — the world debut of their latest horror offering, ON THE EDGE. This is both the third original film from the Twisted Twins and will be their third time returning to FRIGHTFEST which also premiered AMERICAN MARY and their remake of David Cronenberg’s RABID

Taking a departure from medical horror, the Soska Sisters delve into new ground with this tantalizing psychological erotic thriller.

ON THE EDGE follows family man Peter who gets more than he paid for when he books a 36 hour session with the sadistic Mistress Satana who seems more intent on making him suffer for his sins. Is it blackmail? Is it torture? Or is it the Devil come for his soul? Will Peter’s faith save him from his own personal Hell or is he already damned?

Glenn Burchnall, President and CEO of Cathasaigh Productions Limited, (“Cathasaigh”) commented:

“On The Edge is a brilliant depiction of how Kink Culture can heal past trauma and be a source for redemption. Here at Cathasaigh we heartily congratulate the Soska Sisters on this achievement, and are grateful for the opportunity to participate in this amazing project.”

Starring as Peter is Aramis Sartorio also known as adult film star Tommy Pistol. Returning to the screen are both Soska SistersSylvia Soska as Claire, Peter’s loving wife. And Jen Soska as deviously delightful Mistress Satana. Rounding up the all star Canadian supporting cast are identical twin sisters, Brianne and Alanna Finn-Morris who also have a band together called Fionn, Album of the Year Comedy album winner, Andrea Jin, Canada’s Got Talent Semi Finalist comedian Ola Dada, Juno Winner Ivan Decker, and the iconic Mackenzie Gray returns to work with the Soska Twins after captivating audiences as Gunter in RABID

“As an actor, working with artists of Jen & Sylvia’s caliber was incredible. This movie will be as horrifying for you as it was for me. But, people who are familiar with my other work… will agree that it really was my turn to suffer for your amusement,” boldly exclaims Aramis Sartorio.

Also returning is life long Soska Sisters collaborator Kevvy, who has been the musical creative force behind their films. The four time Juno winner and lead singer of Fake Shark with their single, Loser, currently in the Billboard Top 20, Kevvy is back with an all new original soundtrack and score as well as taking a turn in the producer seat.

Having met at FRIGHTFEST, the talented up and coming cinematographer and editor, Luna Wolf joins the production team. This being her highly anticipated debut feature.

Directed, written, and produced by the Soska SistersON THE EDGE was produced by Cathasaigh Productions, Twisted Twins Productions, Disturbia Films, and Black Mamba Pictures.

WinterCon 2022

The weekend of March 12 & 13, 2022 marked the return of WinterCon to Resorts World NYC in Queens, New York. The last time the event had been held was way back in December of 2019. Thanks to COVID it wasn't held the following year. Then, in 2021, it was set to take place in December, but Omicron changed those plans. And, it was postponed till this month. But, the end result was more than worth the wait!

The guest list was awesome! With the main appeal, to me, being the Aliens cast reunion. That James Cameron sci-fi/ horror/ action classic is my second favorite movie of all time. I had been wanting to meet the cast forever, with Jennette Goldstein being at the very top of the list. She played the badass and tough as nails Private Vasquez, one of my favorite characters in a film filled with incredible characters. She was super sweet in person.

The other person I was looking forward to meeting was the original Michael Myers from John Carpenter's Halloween, himself, Nick Castle! He also played him in parts of the last two entries in the franchise, Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills. While, I had seen him at various horror cons, I never did go up to him till now. He was really nice in person.

Basically this means that I got autographs for two of my favorite movies of all time! You can see them in the pic below.

The Aliens cast was reunited onstage for a really cool and informative panel.

As you may have noticed, I was in my Captain America, Avengers: Infinity War cosplay. And, as always I was really excited to see other people's cosplays. While there wasn't a whole lot of them on Sunday, there were some cool ones on hand. Was there more on Saturday? If you know this to be the case let me know in the comments section below. Anyway, here are some of my favorite cosplays that I saw on Sunday:

I also got to run into my friend and all around awesome cosplayer, Miss. Cheng. We chatted for a bit catching up since the last time I saw her, coincidently was at the last WinterCon. As always, her cosplay was cool as hell! She was D.Va from Overwatch, this time around.

Finally, I got to buy some cool toys and got some killer deals on them! I picked up Funko Pops of Fantastic Four's H.E.R.B.I.E. and a Walmart exclusive of Chatterer from Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth (even though he isn't in that movie, but I digress) and an Ultimate Macready from John Carpenter's The Thing by NECA (which I actually scored for $25!).

I had an absolute blast at WinterCon, which remains one of my favorite conventions around. I hope this upward trend continues, and we will have more cons. Were you at WinterCon, and if so what did you enjoy the most? Let me know in the comments section.

WinterCon Returns this Weekend!

This weekend of March 12-13, 2022, marks the return of one of my personal favorite conventions in the East Coast, WinterCon at Resorts World Casino in Queens, New York! After getting postponed from last December due to COVID, its back baby! And, it has one hell of a guest list!

Among them are a KILLER Aliens cast reunion, as seen from the above pic. Long time readers and followers may well know my love this sci-fi/ horror/ action classic. So, you can only imagine how freaking pumped I am for that alone! Plus, they will also have Nick Castle who played Michael Myers in John Carpenter's Halloween, as well as in the 2018 movie and its sequel, Halloween Kills, cast members from Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (including the lovely Kristana Loken who I met some years back at Chiller is so freaking awesome in person!), cast from The Warriors, and so many more celeb guests!

Not to mention all the awesome dealers (I have found some killer deals at this show), artist alley, and, of course, cosplaying! The later of which has me pumped to get back into, as I have not done that since last year's New York Comic Con. I will be Captain America, once again. So, if any of you reading this are there, don't be a stranger! Come and say hi!

Who amongst my readers will be there? What are you most looking forward to? Are you gonna be in cosplay? If so, as what? Let me in the comments section below!

The Pretty Reckless Get into the Halloween Spirit

HAPPY (EARLY) HALLOWEEN FROM THE PRETTY RECKLESS

Check out the creepy and cool Halloween track "Broomsticks" and stay tuned for some very important updates from TPR after you've consumed your Halloween candy...

Watch it here.

ABOUT THE PRETTY RECKLESS:
The Pretty Reckless formed in New York City during 2008, and the musicians and late producer Kato Khandwala initially made waves with their 2010 debut Light Me Up. After countless gigs, the band returned with Going To Hell in 2014. Not only did the record crash the Top 5 of the Billboard Top 200, but it also ignited three #1 hits —the Platinum-certified "Heaven Knows" (the biggest rock song of 2014), "Fucked Up World," and "Follow Me Down"— a feat that had not been accomplished by a female-fronted group since The Pretenders in 1984. Meanwhile, their third offering, Who You Selling For, saw them return to #1 on the Mainstream Rock Songs Chart with "Take Me Down," which cemented them as "the first band to send its first four singles to #1 on the chart," according to Billboard. Praise followed from Vogue, Nylon, and more as the quartet lit up television shows such as Letterman and Conan. With over half-a-billion streams, they headlined countless sold out shows and toured with Guns N' Roses, Soundgarden, and many other heavy hitters. Their latest single "Death By Rock And Roll" is the fifth No. 1 single of The Pretty Reckless' career and has been heralded by Paper, Loudwire, CNN, Forbes, and more. The band also has the incredible and impressive distinction of being the first female-fronted band to have back-to-back No. 1 singles at the active rock format and the first female-fronted act to have five No. 1 singles on the Billboard chart.
