WHITECHAPEL released their standalone single, “A Visceral Retch,” in September. Relentlessly slamming, ominous, and punishing, the track delivers a dark, twisted theme about gluttonous overlords who test the lengths to which humans will go to survive and join their cult. Revolver noted, “...the speed-driven piece is full of detuned death riffs and mega-fast drum snaring. Vocalist Phil Bozeman indeed does some gut-rumbled retching throughout the tune, no doubt brought on by some truly nauseating in-song coprophagia… “ Idioteq concurred, lauding a track that, “reinforces their standing as stalwarts of the deathcore genre,” while Metal Injection gushed, “WHITECHAPEL is back with a new song called ‘A Visceral Retch’ and I am currently writing this from the grave, because this song killed me. If you're a fan of old-school WHITECHAPEL… you're gonna love this – it's heavy as shit, it's unrelenting, and it will destroy you.”
The second day of New York Comic Con 2024 (10/18/24) proved to be an even better and more fun day, than even the previous one was! There was definitely more cosplay on hand and here are some of my favorites I saw on that day:
I was originally going to do Colonel Rick Flag on this day, but people liked my Logan so much that I decided to bring him back for another day. I made the right choice cuz I had even more fun as him, on this Friday. And, I got even more compliments on the way I looked. Here are a few pics of me joining in on the cosplay fun on this Friday.
And, finally, here is the swag that I bought on this day: a G.I. Joe tee- I been wanting one with various characters on it for a while and finally found one at the Tower of Tees booth. And, I went back to that other booth that I mentioned on my last NYCC write-up to get more of their awesomely priced Masters of the Universe Origins figures. This time around, I ended upgetting: Evil-Lyn (2000x version), Mosquitor, and Hordak (my all time favorite MOTU character)
The next day was Saturday, the day known as the biggest, and I would be debuting a new cosplay. But, that is a story for another day.
For now, let me know if any of you were at NYCC 2024 on Friday and what your highlights for this day were in the comments section below.
We are long overdue in inducting a new member into this site's Horror Crushes. So, let's do just that before we reach the end of this year. This time we are inducting the gorgeous Russian actress Marina Zudina!
Born Marina Vyacheslavovna Zudina in Moscow, Russia on September 3, 1965, her father was journalist and mother a music teacher. When she was a kid she took dancing, ballet, and signing lessons. After graduation she was admitted into the Theater studio of Oleg Tabakov, where she began to perform. As a student, she went on to act, getting her first roles around 1985. Most of her work is in Russian movies and TV. But, one of her only American roles , if not in fact her only one, is the reason for this induction.
That movie is 1995's awesome and somewhat underrated horror/ thriller Mute Witness. In it, a slasher movie is being shot in Russia. Billy (Marina Zudina) is the make-up artist on the flick, which is directed by her the boyfriend of her older sister. One night, Billy, who is also mute, gets stuck on the set accidently after they had stop shooting for the day and closed up shop. That night, she unwittingly witnesses a snuff movie being shot where a woman has sex on camera then is brutally stabbed to death. She tries to let the authorities and her sister know what happened, but the baddies play it off as if it all had been done via special FX. Meanwhile, we learn that the Russian mob is behind it all, headed by a man known as the Reaper (the original Obi Wan Kenobi himself, Sir Alec Guinness). And, he wants her dead and the reel containing said murder found.
This stylish horror/ thriller has a mix of Hitchcock and Argento and is one of the most underrated genre flicks of the 90s. Wrier/ co-producer/ director Anthony Waller does superb job directing it. Further elevated by expert editing and shooting, this movie has a couple of scenes that are in and of themselves masterworks of suspense. This is particularly true of the snuff scene and the subsequent chase of our heroine. The first and second act are incredible, and when it seems to slightly dip on the third act, it pulls out some great twists. I've always loved this movie. But, after many years of not seeing it (I owned the laserdisc), I watched the superlative Arrow Video 4K release and love it even more now!
Marina Zudina is very likable as Billy. Her character is smart, brave, and tough. Being mute means that she has to say it all with her eyes and face, which she does so perfectly. She is one of the best and most thoroughly underrated final girls of the era. Zudina's Billy is also that rarest of final girls, one that gets nude! And, she doesn't just get naked once or even twice, she bares skin thrice in the movie, showing butt and boobs.
Needless to say she is absolutely, and naturally, gorgeous. Which is why I had a super crush on her back when I first saw this film. Rewatching it all these years later, I was reminded of just what a stunner she is.
It's a shame that this is her only horror flick, be it American or otherwise. But, to star in one as great as Mute Witness is, in of itself, and accomplishment, especially with this great of a performance and awesome of a character. And, so it is with great honor that we induct Marina Zudina into Horror Crushes!
It's time for a brand new action figure review, more specifically time to review a new Mezco One:12 Collective release. This time around we have a popular character from Marvel Comics and the acclaimed Into the Spider-Verse movies: Ghost-Spider. Also. known as Spider-Gwen and Spider-Woman, this alternate universe version of the classic Spider-Man character Gwen Stacy is one of my favorite superhero characters.
And, if you would like to own her, yourself, you can order her here, where you will get free shipping in the US.
Packaging- The packaging is fairly simple but nice looking. For the front of the box, you get Ghost-Spider's face and hood in a logo/ emblem style look.
The side uses this same image but in a pinkish/ magenta color that really pops.
The top side has the One:12 Collective logo and slogan.
The back has this amazing artwork for her. But, this means that there no pics of the actual figure and her accessories. like we are used to seeing. Not sure, how in-box collectors will feel about this, but, I imagine some might not like that much.
As is the norm with One:12 Collective figures, the casing is separated into three compartments.
First Impressions & Articulation- Right off the bat, she looks great from the moment that she comes out of the box.
The color scheme on her costume really makes her pop out. Then again, I've always liked her look. Her hoodie looks especially cool on this figure. The black parts of the costume have a great shiny look that makes look like she is wearing vinyl. And, the shape makes it look like it is skintight.
She has full shoulder, head, and neck movement.
As well as having very good elbow articulation. No waist movement due to her full body suit, but I found this to be a minor inconvenience, if at all.
Her leg articulation is particularly strong, even if it is within the inherit limitations of the fabric (which isn't that much). Her ankles have very good movement, In fact, as whole, her articulation is one of the figure's strongest assets. Which is exactly what you want in any figure based on a Spider-Man/ Spider-Woman character.
Accessories- While, she decently stands well on her own, it's best to use her stand. The design of it is that logo on the box, and with the magenta and white coloring it really stands out.
She comes pre-packaged with fists to punch you the hell out.
There are four pairs of extra hands only to interchange for her.
Of course, she comes with hands ready to web sling, and they look great.
The pair of open hands are really fun to play around with, This seems like a great time to also show one of the other three extra heads. This one has one fully opened eye and another more narrow one. It makes for some fun looks and poses. You can use it with the spider-sense tingling (more on that later!), surprise, huh, WTF looks, etc. You choose!
These open hands are also great for some wall crawling poses.
The head with the exposed mouth is also pretty cool.
The more open gripping hand is great for holding her cell phone, which happens to look so cool! You can have fun here and make her look like she is talking on the phone or taking selfie pics! One thing, though, her hands and wrists are so thin and tiny that it took several attempts to her phone in her hand and for the hands, themselves, to stay snapped in.
And, it's more selfies time! Especially with the Gwen Stacy unmasked head, my favorite of the alt-heads. Her face looks great! She is really pretty with a great sculpt. And, it's the head I ended up choosing to permently display her in.
Also this head is a great time to show the mask that she can hold on one of her more closed hands. It's not easy to get in her hand though, and I wish it had a tighter grip. Still, it makes for some cool looking poses.
She can also carry a notebook with a tight gripping hand, I found this one to also be hard to get it her hand and stay there. But, once I did, it looks great and is a fun addition to our choices.
c
Anyways, if she has a notebook, she's gonna need a schoolbag, right? Good thing, this figure comes with one. It fits on her as a real life one would. Plus, it opens like a real one, too, and holds both her phone and notebook, her extra hands too, if you wanted to. Though, some of your figures might be like why is she carrying amputated hands! In all seriousness, this is a cool looking accessory.
The last set of hands that she comes with are these that are shooting webbing. They look so damn cool! They are lot bigger, so are easier to snap on her wrists than any of the other sets of hands. More importantly, they look cool as hell and make for some exciting and dynamic action poses.
The wrist device slides right on her wrist after you take out her hand. It is highly detailed looks great on her.
And, here is that spider-sense attachment I mentioned earlier. It fits on the posing post and does not attach to her head. Regardless, it looks so awesome when used with her.
Speaking of the posing post, it is here that we can really see where this figure most shines out. And, where, in turn, you can have the most fun with her. Her incredible articulation allows from amazing poses. And, it is at this point that I said to myself: this figure is freaking awesome!!
She also comes with a two sided web-string that can help to add to more cool poses for her to be in.
Finally, there is a portal that comes in two parts (one of them serving as its stand). She can, of course, use it to travel through the Spider-Verse. It's another great addition to come with Ghost-Spider and makes for more stellar poses for her to be in.
Final Thoughts- This Ghost-Spider looks great and comes with some really fun accessories. Her dainty wrists and hands makes for a bit of annoyance to get to them to stay in when switched. You have to make sure that they snap fully in. But, that is honestly one of the few complaints I have. As this might just be the best female figure Mezco One:12 has yet to make. Where she really shines is in her possibility, which is amazing! It makes for such a fun figure to pose and display.
Don't forget, if you would like to make her part of you collection you can order her right here. She is, as of this writing, currently in stock there, so don't miss out on owning her.
