The second day of New York Comic Con 2024 (10/18/24) proved to be an even better and more fun day, than even the previous one was! There was definitely more cosplay on hand and here are some of my favorites I saw on that day:
I was originally going to do Colonel Rick Flag on this day, but people liked my Logan so much that I decided to bring him back for another day. I made the right choice cuz I had even more fun as him, on this Friday. And, I got even more compliments on the way I looked. Here are a few pics of me joining in on the cosplay fun on this Friday.
And, finally, here is the swag that I bought on this day: a G.I. Joe tee- I been wanting one with various characters on it for a while and finally found one at the Tower of Tees booth. And, I went back to that other booth that I mentioned on my last NYCC write-up to get more of their awesomely priced Masters of the Universe Origins figures. This time around, I ended upgetting: Evil-Lyn (2000x version), Mosquitor, and Hordak (my all time favorite MOTU character)
The next day was Saturday, the day known as the biggest, and I would be debuting a new cosplay. But, that is a story for another day.
For now, let me know if any of you were at NYCC 2024 on Friday and what your highlights for this day were in the comments section below.
As a collector of wrestling figures and a huge ECW fan, I've always been disappointed by the lack of wrestlers from said legendary hardcore wrestling company from Mattel. Sure we've had guys like Cactus Jack, Terry Funk, and Rob Van Damn. But, ECW originals who didn't do a whole lot or did nothing at all within the WWE, itself, were in serious lacking. So, it made me super happy when the beer drinking, cigarette smoking, cane wielding badass that is the Sandman was gonna be released.
This seems to be his year, with Dark Side of the Ring doing a great episode on him and WWE releasing a new tee of his. That's on top of this figure! Anyway, I got my pre-order through Entertainment Earth, and it came in a few days ago. Here is my review of him (NOTE: This is the common release, as there is a chase variant with red, white, and blue pants):
Packaging- The packaging is the typical for current WWE Elite releases. It has a pic of the Sandman on the left side with a see-through window on the right displaying the figure and his accessories. Below him is the current WWE logo.
Right side of the packaging has his name while left has that same pic of him and the number of the Elite series, that he is part of, 111.
The back has a badass pic of the Sandman and tells a little bit about him, even mentioning, somewhat indirectly, the Metallica song he used to come out to, "Enter Sandman". Below that is a cross cell with the other wrestler in the 111 series.
Top and bottom have the usual bits of info and legal stuff you expect to find.
First Impressions & Articulation- Wow! This figure looks so cool! I simply love the bard wire wrapped around his waste and back of his neck.
Combined with the white ECW shirt, it's a great look that they picked and used for him. The shirt is removable. But, as far as I can tell, you'll have to snap off the head and arms to take off the bard wire and the shirt. I don't plan to do that, so if you do please tell me how it looks/ went for you in the comments section below.
He has a painted on tank top underneath the tee. As I said, before this is the common version with black and white pants. They look great!
The face is a good likeness to him, and I love the sneer/ look they gave him! There is some nice detail in his hair.
He has excellent and full shoulder, elbow, and wrist articulation.
There is limited side to side movement in the head, but good up and down movement.
The waist has full movement. But, leg movement at the crotch is limited, as are the ankles. But, the rest of the leg has excellent articulation.
Accessories- This figure comes with the things you would want/ expect him to come, save for a cigarette. But, I think that would've been pushing it, for a Mattel toy. So. it's not like anybody would've expected that to be included.
I love the singapore cane! It looks great and ready to smash upside someone's head with it.
He also comes with four beer cans and a pair of alternate hands that are wider open to hold them. The cans are plain and all silver (Coors Light?) and have no label. But, we know it's beer, cause it's the freaking Sandman! Also, again this is Mattel, so it ain't gonna say beer on the can. Not that it really matters that much, cuz honestly they just add to the coolness of the figure!
Final Thoughts- This is a really fun and cool figure. It's a great representation of the Sandman, in particular when it comes to his face and accessories. This makes it a definite must for fans of his and tECW. Let's hope this is the start of us getting more ECW originals from Mattel. For now make some space for the Sandman and cue up that Metallica track for him! Also, let me know if you are getting him in the comments section below.
I wasn't able to secure a Saturday ticket for the 2023 edition of New York Comic Con, but I was back the next day, October 15, for what ended up being the most epic and awesome day of the entire con for me. Fuck, it was one of the best days of the whole damn year for me!
You see, I got to meet one of my heroes: the legendary master of horror, John Carpenter! Between moving and not having our actual place (until just a few days ago actually), this year has been really hard. My depression and anxiety have been hit hard by all of this. One day, my mom randomly said that she wanted to gift me John Carpenter's autograph at Comic Con! I was surprised, touched, and grateful. So much so, that I cried as I thanked my mother. This meant so much to me, as Carpenter is one of my biggest influences and heroes. Someone, whose work and movies, I've loved since childhood.
I had my autographed scheduled for that Sunday and met up early with friend Danni, to do that first and foremost on that day. There was a long line, but I must say that Comic Con handled it well, and it really didn't last as long as it could've in a less better run con. Anywho, when I finally got up to him, and I told him that he was one of my heroes and biggest influences. He replied to me, "Well, Gio, you have a beautiful girl with you." He was, of course. referring to my friend Danni, who was greatly flattered, and I was left with one of the greatest memories I'll ever have in my entire life.
He signed my newly bought 4K copy of my favorite movie of his, one whose my love for has only grown more and more over the years and viewings: The Thing! I adore this movie and this autograph is one I will cherish for all of my life.
After that it was back to enjoying the rest of the con. I was still in my Rick Flag cosplay, and I was soon to discover that luck was truly with me! As I ended up winning a Jurassic World dinosaur and $75 off of a lighsaber! You'll see that and other stuff that got below. For now, here are some visual and cosplay highlights of the final day of Comic Con!
This is the final swag that I got at NYCC 2023: From Super7, I got NYCC exclusive shirts of mummy Snoopy and Woodstock and Transformers Good-Bye Megatron 50% off of books with something free got me Garbage Pail Kids:The Ultimate Pop-Up Yearbook at half off and Stranger Things Tarot Cards for free! A Roman Reigns WWE Elite action figure The aforementioned Jurassic World Mosasaurs, which I won And, winning $75 off of a lighsaber I got me one that will be great for my Obi-Wan cosplay!
And, so ended this awesome and epic day! It was another great edition of New York Comic Con. You can, of course, bet your ass that I will be back next year! Who amongst you were there this year? What were your highlights? Let me know in the comments section below.
