Horror Crush: Jessica Belkin

Today, we have a new induction into Horror Crushes: the gorgeous Jessica Belkin! She hasn't been in much and is newer to the acting biz, than some other inductees. But, she made such an impression with me in her latest horror movie, that this felt like the right decision,

Jessica Belkin was born on May 16, 2002. She is from Los Angles, California and is an actress, signer, and song writer. She has been acting since she was a kid. 

As a matter of fact, her first foray into horror was as a kid. You see in 2015, she appeared on the TV show American Horror Story: Hotel. Now, that season is the point where I tried to keep watching but just gave up the show, as a whole. I couldn't stand it and had honestly stopped giving a shit about it a long time before that season. So, I honestly don't remember if I even made it far enough to see her role in it. Anywho, she played the vampire child of Lady Gaga (who I do remember looking good in it). Any of you guys remember this role of hers? A year later she would have another (though I'm guessing smaller) child role, this time in a children's scary movie called Ghost Goggles. She is uncredited in the film though.

In 2017, she lent her voice, to the character of Kat Thomas, for the horror video game Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul. Now I never played this game, in fact, I don't think I even knew that Paranormal Activity had its own game! Anyways, if you guys played this let me know how it is? And, let me know how her voice acting was. 

 

Then in 2021, she appeared in the horror movie Death Link, where she played a character named Tabitha. Again, I never heard of much less seen this one, but maybe one of you guys have. If so let me know in the comments section your thoughts on it and her role.

2023 saw her in the lead role of home invasion or more precisely diner invasion movie Last Straw. It's that movie and role, where I finally saw her, and she immediately caught my attention. And, it's thanks to it that she got this induction.

In it, she play Nancy Osborn a young waitress, who works at her dad's diner. She just found out this morning that she is knocked up. She has decided to not keep it. But, today she is pulling a double shift, including working the late night shift. The thing is a bunch of masked psychos and hoodlums are terrorizing her (she is by her lonesome self) in increasingly violent manners. She will have to fight for her very life in this place that is far from civilization.

I actually only saw this earlier this year, in January, to be precise. It kind of sucks that no has been talking about this awesome movie. It is an absolute and increasingly nail-biting crowd pleaser. Director Alan Neal Scott does a great job of keeping the proceedings intense, suspenseful, and violent. Plus, the main villain is a total asshole, piece of shit that is easy to hate.

As our final girl Nancy, Belkin is great! She gives a strong performance as a character that is tough, smart, and as easy to cheer for (making her the perfect polar opposite of our aforementioned antagonist). She is, of course, absolutely gorgeous. Her stunning eyes being one of her most beautiful features. You add this all up and it is easy to see how she immediately became a favorite of mine. Here is hoping she returns to horror soon. Also, here is hoping you check out Last Straw, if you haven't done so already. It's streaming on Shudder, which is where I saw it. 

Belkin is a great actress with a very bright future ahead. She already gave an amazing performance in the very solid and incredibly suspenseful Last Straw. One that has already catapulted her to one of my favorites. This on top of being naturally gorgeous and stunning. It is with great honor that Jessica Belkin is the latest to join our Horror Crushes section!

Horror Crush: Tawny Moyer

I am so over this damn summer heat. All, I can think of is when it will be fall and most especially about Halloween! So, let's keep this glorious and highly awaited time in mind, by inducting a beauty into Horror Crushes that is connected to that great season. And, that stunner is blonde babe Tawny Moyer!

Tawny Moyer was born on March 30, 1957 in San Diego, California. She began acting in 1978 but only acted in one horror flick (which keeps the trend going from our two previous inductees: Sara Melson and Almanta Suska). Anyway, that movie is Halloween II, one of the most popular and beloved entries (especially by fans) in one the genre's biggest franchises!

Taking place right after the masterful original, this one has unstoppable killer Michael Myers (Dick Warlock) following final girl Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) to the hospital. He wants to kill her and finish what he started in the last movie. All in his way are soon to permanently go away. Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence), meanwhile, is determined to stop him for good. We also learn that Laurie is Michael's sister, a storyline that would continue and be accepted as canon until the shitty last trilogy threw it all away. 

Halloween II has aged wonderfully. It has actually gotten better with the passing of time and viewings. This is especially true in light of that aforementioned wretched trilogy (but hey we did get an inductee into Horror Crushes in the form of Virgina Gardner so there is that). Sure the movie suffers from the limitations of the slasher flick (including some dumb characters) especially within a studio franchise and this time period. Add to that stupid jump scares (though one involving Michael, a pretty brunette, and a butcher knife does work quite well) and a mostly useless Laurie, as faults of the flick. But, it is also really well shot, has some mean spirited and violent kills, an absolute killer climax, and Loomis fucking rules.

 

Another plus is that the movie has its fair share of hotties in the cast. And, we even get a very memorable topless scene from one of them (Pamela Susan Shoop). But, even if she doesn't get nude, my favorite was always Moyer. I've had a crush on her ever since I first saw this flick, as a little kid on TV. Her blonde hair, blue eyes, and natural good looks immediately caught the attention of my young brain and heart. Her character of nurse Jill isn't given a lot to do, but she remains likable throughout the flick's duration. So much so, that I always feel bad when her character gets killed by Michael via scalpel to her back and gets dramatically lifted as she gasps in pain.

Moyer's last acting gig was in 2001. and she retired from the movie biz soon after. But, she played a memorable role in one of the best entries in a popular franchise. So, with a solid performance and striking beauty lighting up Halloween II, I happily induct Tawny Moyer into this site's Horror Crushes! Are you fellow fan of hers? Horror Crush: Jenny Neumann

I've been a on a kick of inducting ladies into the Horror Crushes section, as I been enjoying doing just that. I hope that I continue to do so as 2023 rolls on. And, today I am inducting an absolute blonde stunner, a dream girl come true if you will: the gorgeous Jenny Neumann!

Neumann studied acting at UCLA in the 70s and made her acting debut in Mistress of the Apes (1978). But, her first horror role would come two years later.

That film is the one that inspired me to induct her, the Australian slasher flick: Nightmares (1980). It's also known as Stage Fright and is not to be confused with the 1983 anthology flick Nightmares or the awesome Michelle Soavi giallo Stage Fright. This one deals Cathy (Neumann), who as a little girl watched her mom fuck and mess around with some dude. She accidently cause the car crash in which they both die. Now, she is a gorgeous but sexually repressed actress. And, soon people start dying around her.

It may lack in the suspense and logic departments, but it is still a decent little flick that takes inspiration from American slashers and the Italian giallo. I go further into my thoughts on this film in my review of it. As far as Nuemann, she is really fun to watch, as she has this great, wild look in her eyes. She is also genuinely likable in the role, even when it comes off as over-the-top. She looks breathtaking in her beauty, which certainly doesn't hurt.

A year later, in 1981, she would appear in her next and final horror movie, Hell Night. It's a surprisingly good slasher about a group of college kids staying in a creepy, old house as part of a fraternity hazing. It's got some likable characters and is a really good looking flick with some genuine tension. The flick also has a great climax and stars some lovely ladies. Among them is Linda Blair as the final girl and, of course, Neumman, who plays mean girl May. She ends up losing her head.

 

One cool thing, is that she appeared in the extra features to Scream Factory's awesome Blu-ray, released a couple of years ago. She still looked beautiful!

She did appear on both "V" and V: The Final Battle (1983 & 84) as good alien Barbara. While, it is definitely not horror, it does feature evil aliens disguised as humans, scared the fuck out of me as a kid, and serves as an excuse to post pics of her in her bra.

Neumann would soon retire and turned to writing instead. Her career was short, and I certainly wish she had done more. But, with her appearances in two slasher movies and her absolutely stunning beauty, it is clear that she is a great addition to Horror Crushes!

Horror Crush: Sharlene Martin

It's time for another induction into this site's hallowed section: Horror Crushes! This happens to be, more than likely, the last induction of 2022. And, she is the absolutely gorgeous Sharlene Martin (married name: Sharlene Ludwig)! One of my biggest crushes as a teen, her induction is a no-brainer.

Martin was born in Vancouver, Canada and is, currently, 69 years old. She only has a couple of acting gigs which began back in 1987, with a horror movie, actually called Possession (AKA Possession: Till Death Do Us Part). Honestly, I never heard, much less saw this movie, before today. Apparently, it's about some nut-job named Frankie, who has mommy issues. He stalks Madeleine (Martin, here using the name Melissa Martin) and starts hacking up girls along the way. It doesn't seem to be thought of very highly by fans or critics. But, hey, if you're a fan of it let me know why you like it, or even if you hate it, and, of course, tell me how Martin is in in the comments section below. 

Her next and last horror movie is the one we all know her best from:

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan. Now, I've shit on this movie plenty of times and with good reason. It is the worst entry, easily, in the entire franchise. It's stupid, takes forever to get to Manhattan (though most was actually shot in Canada), has barely any gore, is fill with godawful characters, and has a really shitty ending. But, it does have some gorgeous ladies in it, including another Horror Crush inductee, Kelly Hu, who plays Eva. She's a nice girl who just happens to be the bestie of Tamara (Martin), who isn't nice and is instead snotty and mean, but, also, hotter than hell. OK, I will say one more nice about this sequel. It's a better movie than Freddy's Dead, Halloween: Resurrection, or Halloween Ends, so it does have going for it as well. Oh and the doggy is adorable, and the title track rocks. See I managed to say more than one nice about it!

Like I said, Martin's character isn't likable, in the least bit, or actually has any real depth beyond being a bitch, But, she does a good enough job bringing her to life. And, honestly, she, and her beauty, are a major highlight in a movie that has so few.

Actually, her performance was burned into my thirteen, or so, year old brain. In particular, two scenes, the first being when she tries to seduce her teacher, to get a passing grade, by marking all the right parts on herself. And, holy shit does have an amazing body or what?!

This precedes her death which isn't exactly amazing. All it amounts to is Jason throwing her into a mirror and then stabbing her with a shard of glass. But, we get the requisite T&A, literally, from her. Which helps to elevate the scene. As a matter fact, she is in my top two or three hottest babes in the entire Friday the 13th franchise. Which is, honestly, saying a lot!

Like, I said that was her last horror role, though, she did appear in the amazing and definitive Friday the 13th documentary, Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th. She still looked amazing and her appearance was one of many highlights of this docu for me. I am just hoping that one day she will do a horror convention, here in the east coast! Note: to my knowledge she has never done a horror con (or any other type), but one can always hope.

She might not have starred in the best genre films, but it's impossible to not crush on her. She clearly has breathtaking beauty and an unforgettable and sexy appearance in horror's longest running franchise. Thus, I feel it is a no-brainer (and, way overdue considering I mentioned possibly inducting her way back when I inducted Kelly Hu) that Sharlene Martin is now an official Horror Crush!
