Come Mother's Day, "Z" Will be Unleashed by Shudder!

April 16, 2020 — Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for horror, thriller and the supernatural, announced today that it has acquired all rights in its territories to Z, the latest horror film from director Brandon Christensen (Still/Born). The film, which stars Keegan Connor Tracy (Bates Motel), Sean Rogerson (Grave Encounters), Jett Klyne (The Boy), Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries) and Stephen McHattie (Pontypool), is the story of Elizabeth, a young mother who begins to fear her introverted son’s imaginary friend, Z, may be terrifyingly real. Shudder will release as a Shudder Original on May 7—just in time for Mother’s Day.

“Brandon’s Still/Born was a tense, frightening film grounded in a tragic story that Shudder members quickly embraced and turned into a hit. We jumped at the chance to work with him again on Z, which were excited to debut next month,” said Craig Engler, Shudder’s General Manager.

“When Still/Born premiered on Shudder on Mother’s Day in 2018, it was clear that they understood what the film was going for and allowed it to shine,” said Christensen. “With Z, we once again have a film about a tortured mother and father, diving into the psyche of what it’s like to have a child with a mind of their own. I’m thrilled to be teaming with Shudder and once again releasing a film on Mother’s Day, where we can both celebrate and terrify mothers once again.”

is written by Christensen and Colin Minihan and produced by Chris Ball, Kurtis David Harder, Christensen and Minihan. The deal was negotiated by Emily Gotto on behalf of Shudder and by ICM on behalf of the filmmakers.

Pro-Wrestling Legend Chris Jericho Will Co-Host Season Premiere of "The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Brigss"!

APRIL 14, 2020 — Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for horror, thrillers and the supernatural, announced today that AEW “Le Champion” and Fozzy singer Chris Jericho will co-host the upcoming season premiere episode of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs, streaming Friday, April 24 at 9PM ET.

“When Joe Bob Briggs asked me to come watch a movie featuring butt darts, brain sucking, backgammon for digits, a maniacal mini-Oates AND a dick dog, I said: what time and what trailer park!” said Chris Jericho.

“Chris Jericho is the most exciting wrestling personality to befriend horror since Rowdy Roddy Piper co-hosted They Live! with me on TNT years ago,” said The Last Drive-In host Joe Bob Briggs. “In fact, Jericho may be the most famous wrestler in the world right now, not to mention lead singer for a metal band that charted on Billboard with an anthem that thousands of arena fans know by heart. I’m gonna share the hosting chair with Chris so that he can go wild on a seventies horror classic he’s been crazy about since high school. He’s a world class athlete, podcaster, actor, musician—he’s really a one-man bundle of pop-culture fun—and on April 24th he’s gonna prove that he’s also a drive-in kind of guy.”

A short while ago, Jericho shared the following video announcing his appearance to his @IAmJericho Twitter account: https://twitter.com/IAmJericho/status/1250116710281158656

On The Last Drive-In, Joe Bob Briggs, the world’s foremost drive-in movie critic, presents an eclectic horror movie double feature, interrupting the films to expound upon their merits, histories and significance to genre cinema. Episodes of The Last Drive-In first stream on the Shudder TV live feed in the U.S. and Canada before being made available on demand. The show’s hashtag, #TheLastDriveIn, has trended on Twitter during the premiere of every episode in season one and across four holiday specials, including Joe Bob’s Halloween Hootenanny and A Very Joe Bob Christmas. New episodes will premiere on Shudder Friday nights through June 26.

The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs series is produced by Matt Manjourides and Justin Martell and directed by Austin Jennings.

The new season of The Last Drive-In is part of April’s “Halfway to Halloween” Month on Shudder. Other highlights this month include the new series Cursed Films, a new season of Australian slasher Wolf Creek and a special collection of the first eight Friday the 13th movies.

WinterCon 2019 Part 2: Cosplay Galore!

Back, in late November, I posted the first part of my coverage of WinterCon 2019, but never got around to posting the next part. And, while this was long overdue, with no conventions till God knows when, this actually kinda works out. Anyway, let's stop wasting time and get right back to it, as we dig into some of my favorite cosplays of that day!

 The Empire has glitter!
This Spyro is so freaking cool! I simply loved her look!

Here goes some DC Comics inspired fun for you!

And, now we go from DC Comics to a crossover with Jason Voorhees of Friday the 13th fame! This kick ass mix of Bane and Jason is badass as fuck!

And, keeping with the Jason crossover cosplays, we got two of the coolest things in horror mixed in one: our aforementioned unstoppable baddie with Stranger Things!

And, from DC (and, Jason Voorhees) we got to Marvel Comics!

A simple but super cool cosplay, this Dana Scully, immediately caught my eye. I feel like she really captures Scully's look, beauty, and style. As a HUGE fan of "The X-Files", I absolutely adored this cosplay. I would LOVE to see more cosplays like this, please!

When it comes to fun cosplays you can beat Hooters Deadpool and Miles Morales Spider-Man! And, if you must know, I did squeeze Deadpool's balloons, and by balloons, I mean boobs!

Another absolute highlight was this lovely lady doing the candelabra from Disney's Beauty and the Beast. It's a beautiful and imaginatively done cosplay. I don't remember ever seeing anyone do this before, but damn did she do an excellent job with it!

I did manage to join in a couple of more pics, in my Captain America cosplay. I am joined by two excellent Spider-Verse cosplayers. Cosplaying as Silk is the awesome as fucking hell, Smallz_NYC. Both of them are cool and were fun to hang with and take some badass Marvel Comics inspired pics!

Cemetery Filth- Dominion (Album Review)

Musicians: Cemetery Filth
Album Title: Dominion
Genre/ Subgenre: Death Metal
Label: Unspeakable Axe Records/ Boris Records
Release Date: April 13, 2020

Cemetery Filth, a death metal band from Atlanta, Georgia, are making their full length with Dominion. And, if you are hungering for old school death metal with a decidedly Floridian sound to it, then this fucker is for you!

While, they have been putting out work since 2014, on EP (Screams from the Catacombs) and appeared on various splits, it isn't until now that they have given us a full album. The album stands as a pure and unadulterated death metal delivered the way long time fans of the genre have been hankering for.

The opening track, "Subduction", has a fucking awesome intro riff that builds up force as the drums and bass soon come in. It has this really fast tempo sound that recalls the thrash influenced style of Malevolent Creation's early work. Fast and hammering "Exhumed Visions" feels like something that could have come from Morbid Angel's classic Alters of Madness. The mixing of the crunching assault, brutal blast beats, and full blown speed makes "Churning of the Shallows" an absolute banger of a track. But, it is the title and closing track, that really shines. The slow, doomy like intro quickly switches to a building up of energy and driving power. The song really showcases the band's talent as they tackle the tempo shifts with razor focused tenacity and driving brutality. I simply adore the soaring leads in this one and feel like it could go to become a genre classic, all on its own.
Cemetery Filth have made one hell of a debut with Dominion. With solid musicianship and strong old school style this feels like a lost album from the genre's 90's heyday. With a classic feel from its cover to its sound, this one really delivers the goods.

CURSED FILMS Is the Second Biggest Premiere Ever on Shudder!

New Show Is Shudder’s Most-Watched Series After ‘Creepshow’
And Most-Watched Documentary Ever

April 9, 2020 — The Shudder original series Cursed Films debuted to huge numbers for the streaming service, becoming the second most-watched series premiere in Shudder history behind only breakout hit CreepshowCursed Films also stands as the service’s most-watched documentary premiere (series or film) ever. The series, which is part of Shudder’s “Halfway to Halloween Month” programming lineup, released its second and third episodes earlier today, focused on The Omen and Poltergeist.

Cursed Films became an instant hit for us across every metric we have, including total number of viewers, percentage of subscribers who watched during its opening weekend, and completion rate,” said Craig Engler, Shudder’s General Manager. “Jay Cheel’s thoughtful — and at times heartbreaking  — examination of the tragic events that led people to label films like The Exorcist and The Omen ‘cursed’ has clearly resonated with audiences and critics.”

“The entire Cursed Films team is thrilled by the enthusiastic response the series has received from critics and horror fans,” said series writer/director Jay Cheel. “It was a deeply gratifying experience traveling around the US and Canada, interviewing some childhood horror heroes along with some of the most intelligent, articulate, and empathetic subjects a documentary filmmaker could ask for. We're so excited to finally be able to share the finished product with Shudder's members who we hope find the experience of watching Cursed Films as rewarding as we did making it.”

Cursed Films explores the myths and legends behind some of Hollywood’s notoriously “cursed” horror film productions through interviews with experts, witnesses and the cast, directors and producers who experienced these events first hand. Were these movies really cursed, as many believe, or just victims of bad luck and bizarre circumstances? The Exorcist star Linda Blair, The Omen director Richard Donner, Poltergeist III director Gary Sherman, podcaster Matt Gourley, critic April Wolfe and Fangoria editor Phil Nobile Jr are among the many insiders and experts interviewed for the series.

Last week’s record-breaking premiere focused on the legend and impact of The Exorcist “curse.” Episodes two and three, premiering today, explore whether the Devil himself might have cursed The Omen, and if a curse might be connected to the tragic deaths associated with the Poltergeist franchise. The final two episodes, examining the horrific deaths on the sets of The Crow and Twilight Zone: The Movie, will premiere Thursday, April 16.

Cursed Films is written, directed and edited by Jay Cheel (How to Build a Time Machine) and executive produced by Andrew Nicholas McCann Smith and Laura Perlmutter for First Love Films, along with Jay Cheel and Brian Robertson.

With Shudder Members Shut-In, the Claustrophobic THE ROOM Becomes Huge Hit!

April 1, 2020 — The Shudder original movie The Room has become a runaway hit since it debuted on March 12, easily claiming the top spot as the service’s most-watched Shudder Original film of the year and one of the most watched Original premieres in the history of the service. The film tells the story of a couple, played by Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) and Kevin Janssens (Revenge), who move to an old house in the country only to discover it contains a room that grants wishes… but with a price.

The Room had a strong debut in week one, which is where we usually see the biggest numbers,” said Craig Engler, Shudder’s General Manager. “But in week two the audience grew a staggering 150 percent, and week three viewership was only a hair below that, turning it into a monster hit.  There’s something about The Room and its claustrophobic story of a family stuck inside a house under extraordinary circumstances that’s really resonating with Shudder members.”

The Room’s streaming premiere on Shudder on March 12 marked the first time the film had been commercially available in the U.S., Canada or the UK. The film had its world premiere last April at the Brussels International Fantastic Film festival and followed with a successful run on the international film festival circuit, earning Best Feature honors at both South Korea’s Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival and France’s Strasbourg European Fantastic Film Festival. The Room, which also stars Francis Chapman, John Flanders and Joshua Wilson, is Volckman’s sophomore feature. His debut was 2006’s animated feature Renaissance.

In April, Shudder is set to premiere the new docu-series Cursed Films, along with new seasons of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs and Wolf Creek and the Shudder Original film 0.0Mhz, all under the banner of “Halfway to Halloween Month,” the service’s celebration of All Hallows’ Eve in April. New members can enjoy 30-days free with the promo code SHUTIN when signing up at Shudder.com.
