Tankcrimes is pleased to announce a special twentieth anniversary vinyl repress of Evil Never Dies, the debut full-length from TOXIC HOLOCAUST, set for release on December 8th.

 

TOXIC HOLOCAUST began kicking out the corrosive jams in basements and bedrooms over twenty years ago, building a punishing legacy of mutant thrash and filthy street punk that’s outlasted the heydays of the genres that spawned them. Founder Joel Grind, whose dedication to the one-man-band ethos gives the late Quorthon a run for his money, melts down the greatest punk metal crossover riff collection imaginable into nuclear ooze. With each successive release, Grind repurposes the most visceral strengths of speed, thrash, and punk through his own unique vision, making for new metal anthems that consistently reignite a circle-pitting feeding frenzy in the scene.

 

Initially released in 2003 via Nuclear War Now Productions and Witches Brew Records, Evil Never Dies was Grind’s first official full-length. Wrote All Music of the release, “…Evil Never Dies may have originally been released in 2003, but it rocks and rages like it was plucked directly out of the metal underground circa 1983. The group's leader -- the appropriately named Joel Grind -- managed to pack quite a wallop on this recording, which perfectly laid out the group's subsequent releases. In other words, you know exactly what to expect with each new TOXIC HOLOCAUST release -- early Metallica/Slayer-styled thrash. Case in point, such eardrum bashers as ‘War Is Hell,’ ‘Enemy Of Jesus,’ ‘666,’ and the album closer, ‘Atomik Destruktor.’ For thrash so vintage sounding that it could be passed off as an unreleased album teleported directly from the mid ‘80s, Evil Never Dies is one potent metallic weapon.” Dead Rhetoric concurred noting, “Fun, zesty jams like ‘Damned To Fire,’ ‘Summon The Beast,’ and ‘Warfare’ aren’t hard to get into. They’re punchy, instantly memorable cuts that demonstrate Grind’s deft, but simple songwriting skills…”

 

Comments Grind on the Tankcrimes reissue, “It’s hard to believe I recorded Evil Never Dies twenty years ago. It simultaneously feels like yesterday and forever ago. At the time, there was minimal info on recording a DIY solo record at home. I just kinda learned as I went through trial and error. After all these years, I’m still happy with the way it turned out. No computers, no fixing…bumps and bruises and all.

Remastered 15th Anniversary Edition of Meshuggah's Classic "ObZen" Coming March 31st Via Atomic Records: Preorders Available!

2023 marks fifteen years since the release of ObZen, the groundbreaking sixth studio album from long-running metal icons MESHUGGAH.

Another masterpiece of musical diversity and surprises standing among an already sonically astounding discography, the 2008-released ObZen contains the band’s monster hit, “Bleed” – the song that tore through the industry like a shockwave leaving fans and musician friends alike simply awestruck. Jungle Rot- What Horrors Await (Reissue) (Album Review)

What Horrors Await is the sixth studio release by death metal band Jungle Rot and has long been very hard to find. Thankfully, though Victory Records have just released a reissue of this much sought after and blistering release.

Originally released in 2009, this is Jungle Rot at its fucking best. Fast and driving this fucker will get you going and pumped up. But, the album was a one time deal with a different label and never made it to the US, being sold only in Europe. Hence, fans here have been dying to own it ever since.

Your Jungle Rot, and death metal collection in general, will not be complete unless you add this classic to it. And, now is your chance is to do so. Every song on here has is great. They all have a kick ass and pounding in your face death metal grove and are filled with anger and ferocity.

It opens with the fast and pulverizing "Worst Case Scenario".  The driving "Unstoppable" is the perfect name for this juggernaut of a song. The wicked speed of the blast beat and shredding guitar filled "Straighjacket Life" will beat you into a bloody pulp. "End of an Age" comes at you like a tank mowing everything in site with furious drums and a groove that truly fucking kills! Speaking of groove, it is in full swing in what might be my favorite track, the thundering "Speak the Truth". The title track is a face smashing ass kicker from hell. I could really go on and on, as I said every track is a barn burner, including a fucking awesome and shredding cover of German thrash metal masters Destruction classic "Invisible Force".

This reissue has excellent production. It sounds thick, clear, and deep with a truly crushing sound all around. It is complemented by the classic artwork by Gyula Havancsak, who would go on to work on the next three albums by the band. This one is cool and badass as fuck, as his art for the band tends to be.

A rollicking slab of groovy death metal, Jungle Rot's What Horrors Await can finally be owned by US fans of the band. It already hit digital download and will hit CD on April 6, to be followed by a LP release later that same month.

Ampütator- Deathcult Barbaric Hell [Vinyl Reissue] (Album Review)

Ampütator are a black metal band from Rhode Island/ Connecticut. Deathcult Barbaric Hell is their debut album and was originally released in 2007 on CD and cassette. On May 18 of this year, it was released and remastered for on vinyl by Greyhaze Records.

Right from the get go you realize that this band is true old school black metal. The influence of bands like classic Emperor and Darkthrone dominates the sound and feel of the music and album throughout. The consistent and almost droning blast-beat drumming is accompanied by saw like guitars and inhuman/ demonic vocals.

The album opener ''Rape Kill Annihilate'' rips from the very intro with a chainsaw sound that cuts right through the bone. The brutal blast-beats further decimate the listener. The screams of a dying pig go right into the fast and savage ''Gutterslut'', which is unrelenting its musical assault. There is almost catchy Venom-esque intro to ''Obliteration'' which heads straight into furious Darkthrone territory. Then there is the absolute killer and battering cover of the classic Repulsion track ''Slaughter of the Innocents''. It showcases the band's influences beyond Norwegian black metal. The pummeling ''With Hate'' seethes with just that as it features an angry and cold wall of brutality. ''Extinction Deathmarch'' is a blast of freezing and evil air that is filled with detest and viciousness. Brutal and face slicing annihilation mixes with some chilling riffing in ''Complete Butchery''. This, my favorite track on the album, will make you feel as if a butcher is hacking and slashing your face and body to bloody bits with an evil and uncompromising sound.

While the album, as I mentioned before is remastered, it still maintains a very dirty and low-fi sound to it. This brutal and raw black metal style is for those who wish they could go back to the glory days of the second wave of the sub-genre, when Norway ruled with pure evil. The lyrics and themes are more gore and death obsessed than those bands, were but the sound and musical style completely recall that era. As such, it doesn't break any new ground but honestly there in lies the appeal. If you crave those glory days and love vinyl, then dig right fucking in.
