Chiller Theatre: October 2022

On the Halloween weekend of October 29, 2022, it was time for another trip to Chiller Theatre! This was honestly one of the most amazing guest lists they have had in years. In fact, it might rank among their best ever! What was also cool, and, in turn more fun, was it was the biggest group of us at the con in years. As three of my friends, Freddie, Alan, and Nelson (in his awesome version of Jack Skelington look!), joined me for the kick ass good times!

The first person I went up to was the lovely and awesome Heather Matarazzo. I was really excited to meet her. I consider her Elizabeth Bathory inspired death scene in Eli Roth's Hostel II to be one of the coolest gore scenes of the 2000s. I mentioned to her how much I loved the Shudder documentary mini-series, Queer for Fear, of which she was one of the celebs that were interviewed on it. She was very sweet and all smiles throughout.

The gorgeous Judie Aronson, of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, American Ninja, Weird Science, and more was up next for me. She's still absolutely breathtaking in person! And, not only is she a total stunner but a sweetheart, too. She was very friendly and talkative as she told us about The Sleeping Car, a movie she was in that she would love to get streaming or some kind of release. I mentioned Vinegar Syndrome, as it felt like something that might they like to put out. I was also sure to let her know that she was one of the people I was most looking forward to meeting that weekend, and that I had a huge crush on her as a kid.

After that I went up to the lovely Robin Frates who played Megan Gallagher in the first Puppet Master. She had the best deal at the con, at $30 for a combo (IE pic and autograph) at the show. Not only that but she was very sweet and all smiles, as she did a couple of pics with me. This was cause my phone wouldn't focus, at first. She also really liked the cover to the Blu-ray trilogy set, that I had her sign.

One person, we were all excited to meet was legendary actress and classic beauty Olivia (Romeo and Juliet, Black Christmas) Hussey. Black Christmas is one of my personal favorite movies, one I love more and more with the passing of time. She is so important to the genre, being one of the first final girls of the genre. Yet, she is so humble in person. She also told me that she liked the patches on my jacket, especially Elvira. And, asked me about the skull on it, as she has a shirt of it. But, you see, she didn't know what it was. I told her its the Punisher, to which she replied that it sounded scary. I explained to her, that he was not horror, but that he is instead a Marvel hero/ vigilante.

The last person that I went up to was another of the people that I was most excited to meet, the gorgeous Terry Farrell of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth, and more. She is absolute stunner in person, and so tall, at 6'0"! She was also awesome as fuck, as I told her that she was the person I most looked forward to meeting having loved her in Hellraiser III and Stark Trek: DS9. She was very flattered by my comments and was just a blast to talk. She said that she sent Pinhead to hell and should have come back. To which I wholeheartedly agreed, cause she did and should have! Seriously, she rocks and was a great celeb for to close off the day with.

We didn't stay for the party this time around, but we had an absolute fucking blast. We already can't wait till the next one in April!

Here is what I bought at Chiller:
Since I got Screem (limited edition Count Yorga cover) magazine, I got for free a Blu-ray copy of Battle of the Worlds
And, from Vinegar Syndrome I got: The Werewolf Vs. Vampire Woman (in 4K, a brand new release from them).

I have never seen either movie and really look forward to watching Werewolf, in particular, as I am just getting into Paul Naschy movies (finally!). The only movie I have ever seen from him is The Yeti Vs. the Werewolf, which was fun. Just a week or so ago I ordered and got the first of Scream Factory's The Paul Naschy Collection Blu-ray set. Any fans of his reading this? And, if so, what movies of his do you like/ recommend?

Finally there are the autographs that I got:
Terry Farrell: Hellraiser: The Scarlet Box
Robin Frates: Puppet Master: The Blu-ray Collection
Judie Aronson: Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter

Did any of guys go to Chiller? If so who did you meet? What were the highlights for you? Let me know in the comments section below.

Horror Crush: Mary Elizabeth Winstead

Since this is Women in Horror Month, I am doing extra inductions into Horror Crushes! Today, I am going with one of the best mainstream/ studio scream queens around, one that has amassed a quite large amount of genre work in a relatively short amount of time: the breathtakingly beautiful Mary Elizabeth Winstead!
Winstead was born on November 28, 1984 in Rocky Mount, South Carolina and is the youngest of five children. A bit of trivia for you, her grandfather is actually a cousin to Hollywood legend, Ava Gardner! In 1997, she began acting onstage and on TV. Her first horror role came in 2001-02 with Wolf Lake. Not only have I never seen this show, but I completely forgot about it! Are any of you fans of this? Let me know in the comments section below.
Her next horror role was also a TV one that I never saw, a 2004 MTV movie called Monster Island. Apparently, Carmen Electra is also in it. But, is this actually worth a look? If so, chime in and let me know!
2005 saw her in The Ring Two, a genuinely awful and boring waste of time. I don't remember her or much of the movie, itself. Other than that the fact that it sucked  hard, and how I almost fell asleep watching it in the movies.
In 2006, she appeared in the fun and gory Final Destination 3. While, not as solid as the two that came before it, this is still a really good entry in one of my favorite horror franchises. Winstead is the female lead, Wendy Christensen. This time around she and her friends don't get on a roller-coaster after her premonition of death on it.
Aside from the sequel having a great, morbid sense of humor and being drenched in splatter, it it is benefited by Winstead's acting. She makes for a genuinely likable final girl and is, of course, stunningly beautiful!

That movie's filmmakers James Wong and Glen Morgan, of The X-Files fame, liked her so much, that they bought her back to work on the ass kicking and underrated remake Black Christmas (2006). I've reviewed and discussed my love for this awesome, fun, gory, and kinda sleazy flick before. It's easily my most watched movie of hers.
She plays spoiled bitch Heather in it and is great! I love that the other girls can't really stand her snotty ass. It's not the typical good or final girl that she usually plays, and, in hindsight, it is an awesome role just for those reasons. It even got her a Scream Queen nomination in 2007 at the long since dead Spike's Scream Awards.

Speaking of 2007, she appeared in Quentin Tarantino's half of Grindhouse, in his road exploitation flick meets psycho killer movie, Death Proof. I, however, am not a fan of this one, despite Tarantino being one of my favorite directors. It is my least favorite flick of his.
Actually, the acting is great in it, as is the gore and gore FX. But, for the most part it is really just a bore. That being said, Winstead looks great and is dressed in a cheerleader outfit, so there is that, too.

In 2011, she had the lead female role in the prequel/ reboot/ remake/ whatever the fuck, The Thing. I am a HUGE fan of the John Carpenter movie (it has over the years become my favorite of his), and never had any desire to see this movie. So, I have yet to do so. But, it is obvious she is beautiful in it, and based on reviews and knowledge of her acting, am sure she is great in it, too. Any of my readers think that I should finally watch this?

2012, saw her in the fun but kind of forgotten Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The mix of historical drama, action, and horror made for a blast to watch in the movies. Honestly, I never bought it and haven't revisited since. But, writing this makes me want to do just that. She played Mary Todd Lincoln in it.

She returned to genre TV with 2015's The Return. As I mentioned back when I inducted Agnes Bruckner, that I have never seen this show. But, it is cool to know that these two Horror Crushes were both in it!
Her best horror film, and honestly my favorite thing that I have seen her do so far, came a year later in 2016: 10 Cloverfield Lane. This entry in the Cloverfield franchise is almost as great as the first flick, Cloverfield. In it, she wakes up in a bunker, where she and a dude, are being kept/ taken care of by an older dude (a very creepy John Goodman).
Winstead gives an excellent performance (as do co-stars Goodman and John Gallagher, Jr.) in it. She is very likable, and makes you care and fear for her. Speaking of fear, the movie is one of the most nail-biting horror movies of the last couple of years. It is a killer and intense horror/ sci-fi/ thriller all the fucking a way through!
Finally, this year (2020), sees her play one of my favorite DC heroes, the Huntress in super fun, and super long titled, Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn. While, not a horror movie in any shape or form, there is a nice amount of juicy R-rated violence (including face peeling, wall splattering squibs, an exploding body and more!), to interest splatter fans. It deserves to do A LOT better at the box office (it blows away the mediocre Suicide Squad out of the fucking park). I love most of the cast, with Winstead being a total badass and looking delicious as the crossbow carrying vigilante. Enough, so that it made realize that this post is long fucking overdue!

Yes, indeed this is an overdue induction, for a truly beautiful and a amazing actress. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is without a shadow of a doubt one of the best mainstream/ studio scream queens ever. She has a done a lot of genre work and seems to be happy to keep appearing in them. There is no fucking doubt about it, she deserves to be a Horror Crush!
Tell me in the comments section below which is your favorite horror movie and role that the lovely Ms. Winstead has done.

Chiller Theatre: April 28, 2018

On April 28, 2018, my friend and Master's Minion, Freddie, and I returned to the best convention on God's green Earth, Chiller Theatre! The last time we had gone was a year ago last April (meaning we sadly missed last October's edition), but we were back baby! And, man did we ever have a blast!

The first celebrity that I up was the absolutely beautiful Kim Director. I have been a huge fan of this stunning and talented beauty since I first saw her in the underrated Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2. As such, I was so excited to see her name added to the Chiller guest list! We talked about the awesome HBO show, The Duece, which she is on. And, how friend, from Brooklyn, had told me that they were shooting scenes of it in her neighborhood. Kim was super sweet and friendly, and, to be honest, absolutely breathtaking in her beauty! She seemed pleasantly surprised that what I wanted signed by her was my DVD copy of the Blair Witch 2.

The next star I went up to was the person I was most excited to meet all weekend, the gorgeous and very talented Scout Taylor-Compton! She is, of course, best known for playing Laurie Strode in Rob Zombie's Halloween remake. I am a huge fan of said movie, and think it is the second best entry in the entire franchise. I told her all of this, as she signed my Blu-ray copy of said movie. She also told me that she wanted to have the baseball shirt that I was wearing, which is Fright Rag's awesome tee of Rob Zombie's Halloween. She is on the shirt, as Michael Myers holds her. But, she missed getting it, as it is sold out! Damn it! Anyway, Scout is not only even more beautiful in person, but she also so very sweet, bubbly, and down-to-earth, that she truly made my day extra awesome!

After this, we waited for Jason X's absolutely gorgeous Kristi Angus. She is best known as the beautiful blonde scientist who gets her face frozen, then smashed to bits by Jason in the aforementioned tenth entry of the long running Friday the 13th franchise. I told her that hers is one of my favorite kills in the entire series. And, that I quite enjoy the movie, and, in fact, like it more than a couple of the other sequels in the series. A big reason for that is that it is fun and tries something new with the Jason movies. All I can add is that she is extremely sweet and impossibly beautiful. Also, you can see in the pic below, that Adrienne King, the final girl of the first and, still, best entry in the series, Friday the 13th, photobombed us, making this one of my favorite Chiller pics, ever!
Speaking of Ms. King, she had the boots that she wore on that classic film with her. You can see them in the pic below.

The last celeb, I got to meet was Keir Dullea, star of classic movies like Black Christmas and 2001: A Space Odyssey. My friend Freddie and I got a pic with him.

As usual there was all the cosplay fun and, later on, party time that we fans have come to expect from the awesomeness that is Chiller!
This little kid dressed as Jason Voorhees in "Friday the 13th Part 2" is parenting done right!
Seeing this furry made me think of "Battle Beasts"!
The Test band kicking ass at the Chiller party!
The Blues Brothers partying at Chiller. The dude to my left totally looks John Belushi!

My movies that I got signed at Chiller:

And, finally these are the Blu-rays that I bought:

Chiller ruled and always will! We can't wait till the next one in Oct!
