Monster-Mania August 2018

This past weekend of August 17-19, 2018 was another edition of the always kick ass horror convention, Monster-Mania. My friend and I attended on Sunday the 19th. As always, we had a fucking blast!

The first celebrity I met was the gorgeous Ashley Laurence. She played Kristy Cotton in Hellraiser I&II, Hellraiser: Hell on Earth, and Hellraiser: Hellseeker, as well as appearing in other movies. I've had a childhood crush on her ever since I first saw her in Clive Barker's original classic. A movie that is one of my top favorite movies, of all time. As such, I have wanted to meet her forever, but she was never at any con, that I went to. This made her the person I was most looking forward to meeting on this day.

Let me tell you, Laurence is a complete sweetheart. She talked to us for a while, enough so that her handler actually had to tell us to move since people were waiting on line for her. Aside, from her sweetness, she is still absolutely stunning! Beautiful inside and out, and having played one of the greatest final girls in one of the longest running franchises in horror hsitory, Laurence is a legend and a must meet for any fan!

After meeting her, the eternally beautiful Lisa Wilcox, who played Alice, another of the genre's best final girls, in A Nightmare on Elm Street 4&5, came up to talk to us. She loved the patches on my battle-vest. That made my day! Imagine that, one of my childhood crushes flattering me, in that manner! She is always so sweet in person. I told her that I first met her at a Chiller, which she, in turn, told me was her first con, ever!

Speaking of A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 4: The Dream Master, I met the lovely Tuesday Knight, who toke over for Patrica Arquette in the role of Kristen in that fun and highly successful sequel. She is a wonderfully friendly lady and signed my Blu-ray box set of the franchise.

The other autograph I got was from Nancy Stephens, who played Nurse Marion Chambers in Halloween 1&2 and Halloween H2O. This was her first con on the east coast. We lucked out, catching her right before she left (she had to be out of there in 5 minutes!). She was such a sweet lady, that it was great to get her to sign my Blu-ray of John Carpenter's classic first entry in the franchise.

I  also got a pic with Sid Haig (this is actually my second time meeting him), from many, many movies, including, of course, playing Captain Spaulding in Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, and the upcoming 3 from Hell! He looked ill, which honest to God, has me worried. I hope it is nothing serious and that he gets well soon (if he is indeed sick). Regardless, he is so nice in person! Fellow Rob Zombie co-star and friend, Bill Moseley was next to him wearing a Space Force uniform (a reference to one of an endless bit of ridiculous shit said by President Donald Trump...). They both joked about it, and it ultimately shows how cool and awesome they are. And, most importantly, what great friends they are to each other.

While, there was probably more cosplay the day before, there was a little on display on this Sunday. Here are two cool ones that I got to photograph:

Of course, I also bought some swag:
Blu-rays: Cathy's Curse (f rom Severin Films, at their booth, naturally) and Night Angel (I picked it from the Diabolik DVD booth)
A print of a painting that I have seen online everywhere featuring various horror characters and monsters. It was signed by the artist, Byron Winton. He does amazing work, as you can see, and talked to us for a while. He too was really nice.
And, finally from over at Fright-Rags, I got an officially licensed Garbage Pail Kids T-shirt of Jabbed Jason. It is a parody of the classic poster art from Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter.

Here are my two autographed Blu-rays, A Nightmare on Elm Street Collection and Halloween, signed by Tuesday Knight and Nancy Stephens respectively.

Anyway, another awesome Monster-Mania has passed us by, and I can't wait for the next one, next year!

Horror Crush: Brooke Theiss

Today on Horror Crushes I am going with one of Freddy Kruger's prettiest victims, the blonde and beautiful Brooke Theiss! While, I mentioned her in an all blonde edition of Horror Crushes, it is time to make it official and induct her in by herself.
Thesis was born on Oct. 23, 1969 (making her 46) in Palos Verdes, California. Her first role was in 1988's Little Nikita, but I know her from her breakthrough role in A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 4: The Dream Master released the same year. In that sequel, Freddy kills part 3's  Kristen (pretty Tuesday Knight replacing Patricia Arquette). He uses her friend Alice (the gorgeous Lisa Wilcox), who Kristen has passed her dream powers to, to enter the dreams of her friends. He needs her as those kids aren't the original Elm Street teens (IE the kids of the parents who immolated him), and he can't enter their dreams without using her. Theiss plays tough 80s babe, Deb.
Deb is a total 80s hottie with big hair and studded accessories. That right there sealed the deal for me as a little kid, since I have always liked rocker girls. Deb is into working out and has a fear of bugs. So naturally Freddy kills her in a manner that combines both things. As she is working out, Freddy breaks her arms by pushing the weights down on her. Roach legs comes out and replace her forearms, which fall to the floor. Eventually, she is turned into a complete roach that is stuck in a roach motel. Freddy then crushes it resulting in goop pouring out. It all amounts to the movie's most spectacular, gruesome, and memorable death. It is a fan favorite and years later would even get it's own figure (left).

Following the amazing third installment, Dream Warriors, which is the finest slasher sequel, ever, Dream Master is a solid, though not as great flick. Fun and imaginative it made more than $49.3 million in the US at the time of its' release. It remained the highest grossing film in the franchise till Freddy Vs. Jason came out years later. Thesis was a huge crush of mine back then, along with the beautiful and aformentioned Lisa Wilcox (you can see both beauties below), who played final girl Alice, making this one pretty special for me growing up. Thesis is quite good and likable in her role. It's one of the things ANOES had over Friday the 13th sequels: better and more likable characters, in my opinion, anyways.
While, not horror, in any way, shape, or form sitcom Just the 10 of Us, debuted the same year and had her star opposite of another ANOES alumni, the original and Dream Warriors star Heather "Nancy" Lagenkamp. I had a crush on both, and despite my still remaining hatred of sitcoms, this is one I had to watch! I don't remember anything about it, though, other than the girls were hotties.
Theiss returned to horror and the Freddy franchise by appearing in the superlative 2010 documentary Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy, where she talked about her role as Deb in part 4. And, she looked gorgeous!!!! She does horror conventions looking more beautiful than ever (the first pic all the way at the top of this article is a recent pic that I found online), though, sadly, I have yet to meet her, as she hasn't done one that I frequent. Brooke, please, do Chiller or Monstermania, please!
Blonde, tall, and blue-eyed, Brooke Thesis may not have done a lot of horror flicks, but her inclusion in the Nightmare franchise is one of the most memorable in the series and one of my biggest crushes growing up. So it is with great pleasure that I officially add Brooke Thesis to this site's Horror Crushes!

One Time Only Horror Crushes- The Horror Franchise Blonde Edition

I've done horror crushes in the past, but what about when she's a horror crush who has only done one film? Well, for those girls I give you my new added segment: One Time Only Horror Crushes!! Let's begin with blondes. And, they all appeared in horror franchise sequels! Enjoy!

WARNING!!! SPOILERS ABOUND!!!!

Brooke Theiss (A Nightmare on Elm Street pt. 4: The Dream Master)- Playing rocker/ workout chick Debbie Stevens, Brooke was really fucking hot, even with the ozone layer killing 80s hair! The whole leather jacket and studs look was a huge turn on for me as a kid! Yes, dear readers, I ALWAYS had thing for rocker girls and will have till the day I die! Anyways, as she works out Freddy comes to her, and ends up turning her into a roach in one of the series very best FX tricks. BTW, the lovely Ms. Theiss is still waaaaaay hot!! MILF!!!

Camilla and Carey More (Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter)- I love British accents!! I love hot twins!! So, these Final Chapter girls combine that in the 4th F13 movie. They appear riding bikes, in their shorts, which is hot, too! Then they skinny-dip. Later, one, has sex and gets thrown out the window by Jason, the other is a prude and decides to go home. Jason don't like cockteases so he impales her in a silhouette! Very cool scene! Anyways, they still look great, too!

Susan Jennifer Sullivan (Friday the 13th pt VII: The New Blood)- Man, I had the biggest crush on this babe. As mega-bitch Melissa, many male horror fans hated her, but they loved her, too!! She was beautiful! And, for the longest of time, I wonder what had happened to her. Sadly, I can say that I just found out that she had passed away on August 10, 2009 at the young age of 46. So, very sad. I had no clue this had happened, but I as I sit here writing this, I am very deeply saddened by this. Like I said had such a huge crush on her. May she RIP. Her beauty and lively performance is forever captured in one of the most fun, even if silly, entries in the series. God bless.

Tara Spencer-Nairn (Wishmater: The Prophecy Fullfilled)- This Canadian hottie stands out for many reason. 1. This is my favorite entry in the franchise (and, I RARELY ever like sequels over the original) 2. She's a heroine/ final girl that gets NUDE!! How many final girls EVER get nude?!! She is absolutely gorgous and a great actress to boot. Plus, the villain falls her. Cause, well how can you not?! The 4th entry in the series is well acted and adds a nice bit of emotional heart to the series. Anyways, she does TV work now, but goddamn I wish she would do another horror film!! And, get naked, again!! That is all.

That's it for this edition. I hope you guys and gals enjoyed these picks. Let me know your thoughts. Are there any one time horror crushes you would like me to mention? Or just tell me which ones are yours.
