Horror Crush: Kristen Hager

With The Predator, one of my most hotly anticipated movies of the year, coming out next month, on September 14, I thought this be a great time to show some love for the one of my favorite franchises, Predator! Today that love will be directed towards the gorgeous Kristen Hager, the latest induction into the Horror Crushes section!
Kristen Hager was born on January 2, 1984 (34 years old) in Red Lake, Ontario. She began her acting career in television. But, the first time that I saw her was in 2007's Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem.
A sequel to 2004's Alien Vs. Predator, AVPR is actually the superior movie of the two franchise crossover movies. AVP is honestly highly mediocre. Hampered by a shitty PG-13 rating, it is awful whenever the humans are onscreen but fun when the monsters fight. This sequel is kinda brain-dead, but it is mean-spirited and fun. Taking place immediately after the aforementioned movie, the Pred-Alien has chestbusted out of his way of a Predator. Fully grown he and his Xenomorph cohorts go on a killing and reproducing spree in a small town. One lone Predator leaves his home-world to eliminate the nasty, acid-bleeding, fuckers.
The movie, itself, is kind of underrated, I think. Now, by no means is it great. Most of the characters are slasher level/ cardboard thin. It also is way too darkly lit, where you do not see jack shit at times. However, I always have a blast watching it. There is some great gore and is wonderfully nasty. A kid gets killed and a pregnant chick is inseminated by the Pred-Alien making chesbusters (yes, plural) come out of her, instead of her expected baby.
Hager isn't really given much to do, except look good. She does this excellently, though and if there were awards for that she would surely have got a strong nomination in '07. Her scene where she tries to hook up with our lead in her undies is quite fetching. She has an amazing body, and I remember being blown away by her beauty and her butt.
But, if I liked her in AVPR, it is in the excellent North American series remake of Being Human from the SyFy Channel (2011-2014) that I fell in love with her. The series is about a trio of supernatural beings (a vampire, werewolf, and ghost) who live together. Hager plays Nora, who becomes the romantic interest and eventual couple of our werewolf hero, Josh.
Hager is wonderfully likable in this role. She adds a lot of pathos and heart to the story and her role. I loved her relationship with Josh. Of course, she also looks breathtakingly beautiful. I really and deeply miss this wonderful horror/ dramatic comedy series.
In 2012, she appeared in her next genre movie, the horror-comedy A Little Bit Zombie. I honestly have never heard, much less seen this one. However, it also stars the lovely Crystal Lowe (who perhaps should be added to Horror Crushes? What do you think?). If you have seen this one, please let me know your thoughts on in the comments section below.
Blonde, beautiful, and talented, Hager has been a favorite of mine since I first saw her. And, my fandom for her has only since grown. A wonderful actress, it is with great honor and joy that I add her to the Horror Crushes of this site! And, be sure to let me know if you are fan of hers in the comments section below!

Update for April 2014

Time for my monthly updates, thoughts, rants, and whatnot.

First off some much needed tributes, for those who have passed on:

Kate O'Mara- While, she may have been best known for being on Dynasty, the beautiful Ms. O'Hara is best remembered by classic horror fans for her work in two Hammer films, The Horror of Frankenstein and, most notably, the classic The Vampire Lovers. The later was an erotically charged horror flick and one of the first of the endearing lesbian vampire subgenre. She and Ingrid Pitt made for a sexy pairing in it. She died on March 30, 2014 at the age of 74 after a short illness. Her beauty will forever be honored in movies like the above.

Ultimate Warrior- This one shocked me. I woke up this morning to find out, via texts and messages, that he had died! We had all just seen him inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, at Wrestlemania XXX, and on Raw. It was surreal, odd, and tragic. We may never know if he knew that his time was coming, and he wanted to make his peace. What we do know is that a legend has left us, at only 54 years old.

I was a huge fan of his as a kid. His match with Hogan was at Wrestlemania VI, where he was the first to ever beat him (and cleanly at that!) and became champ is a classic moment in prowrestling. During his WWF days he would have various feuds, the best of which were with Randy "Macho King" Savage and Ravishing Rick Rude. He left, came back, then left and reappeared in WCW.

Admit ably, there were some crappy moments (Papa Shango and the aforementioned WCW run), but there always remained a mystique about the man. As years passed he would change his name legally to the Ultimate Warrior, would say ridiculous, right wing, and anti-gay speeches, be a victim of the infamous The Self-Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior DVD (in which the WWE shit on him), and other less than memorable moments. But, over time he made his peace with the fans and the WWE. This would lead to his HoF induction and a new DVD/ blu-ray (Ultimate Warrior- Ultimate Collection), which showed him a good light.

It is with great sadness that I say, may he RIP. The power of the Warrior will forever be with us.

TV shows- Recaps and thoughts- WARNING!!! SPOILERS abound:

The Walking Dead- So, they make it to Terminus, meet cannibals, and are locked up as prisoners. Rick basically says they fucked with the wrong people, and... nothing else...
Wait, seriously, THAT was your season finale?! Man, that was some of the laziest shit ever. After the great "look at the flowers" episode, you shovel us this lame shit? Left me with the most meh feeling of the month!

Being Human- The series finale was filled with lots of tears, from Sally sacrificing herself to give "life" to Aidan all the way to them meeting at Aidan's "door". I mean this fucker had me dying. It was a very moving and beautifully acted ending and a nice send off to a great show. That being said, SyFy can still got eat a dick for ending this show, before it's time.

Lost Girl- I guess SyFy must have wanted Monday night to be let's make Master Gio cry night. After all the tears I shed with the aforementioned Being Human finale, this show kills off Kenzie and made me cry even more! It was a great and powerful season finale (to a truly great season, may I add), that hit all the right notes and was excellently done/ handled. I am sure Kenzie will be back and alive next season, it's just a matter of how.

Finally:

It's all official, I will be at Exxxotica AC, this Saturday. I have a bunch of interviews already booked, but I like keeping them secret. So, you will have to wait to see just who I get to talk on camera. That being said, here as I promised last month, is my favorite pic from last year's show at Atlantic City (which was the inaugural one there). It has camera-girl Kristin, Tera Patrick, and myself.
As always, all the coverage will be here, and I am super-excited to bring to you!

Monday Night Is Horror TV Night

WARNING: SOME SPOILERS THROUGHOUT

With the premiere of Bates Motel last night on TV, Monday nights have now been cemented, in my head, as THE night for horror fans to enjoy television. Before this I had leaned towards Sundays and their double-feature blast of Dexter and The Walking Dead. But, Mondays give us three shows instead of two!! Those being: Being Human, Lost Girl, and the aforementioned, Bates Motel.

Starting at 9PM, we have the US version of Being Human. Now, I have never watched the British series that inspired this show, but I do love the American version. Last season remains a high mark for the series. This season has been quite good, as well, though. It started out a little slow, but the last few episodes have really racked up the intensity.

Basically, the story of a werewolf, a vampire, and a ghost living together trying to be, well, human, has befitted from the addition of the lovely Nora (Kristin Hager) as a member of the household and as a part of the main cast. Also, the story of a sickness killing vamps, Sally (Megan Rath) being bought back to life, and Josh (Sam Hunington) losing his wolf (only to regain it!), has been very captivating. I am loving a lot of the drama and fucked up situations occurring in the series, right now.

Also welcomed are the easy on the eyes females. Aside from the aforementioned Hager, being more alive now, has given Rath the chance to look HOT! Man, she is one sexy zombie! Also, yummy is the addition of Deanna Russo as a love interest for our vampire hero Aidan (Sam Witwer). Those eyes can make anyone fall for her!

And, I have to say the last 15 minutes or so last night had me on the edge of my seat! Zombie kids are hungry and must die!! Nice old werewolf gets attacked by vampires!! Holy shit!! Where is this all leading to?

Them at 10PM comes one of the shows, I am most obsessed with: Lost Girl!!!! The story of a sexy bisexual succubus who saves the world from evil supernatural villains and terrors, this show has rapidly become a true favorite of mine. Last season, basically two combined into one, was great and this one is keeping right on course.

Bo's search for self-discovery has been the main theme of this season. And, last night we bared witness to a possible love triangle between Bo, Dyson (Kris Hold-Reid)- a cop werewolf, and Lauren (Zoie Palmer)- the human doctor, returning to the possible forefront (thought to be fair it never really left us). While, I like Dyson, I remain a member of Team Doccubus, the fan name given to the lesbian relationship between Lauren and Bo. I've always been a fan of girl-girl love. You need only to look through the archives here for proof. Seriously, why would I want another boring hetero relationship, when hot lesbians are so much, well hotter?!

But, the series is not only great for it's sexiness. No, a recent episode where Bo visited her adopted mother was very moving. It made me cry. It showed that beyond the babes, sex, lesbians, humor, gore, and monsters, it has a real heart. There is so much to this genre-bending show, that I could go on forever talking about my love for it.

Also, points must be given to it for adding a new character in the form of "dark" fae (the name given by the series to supernatural characters) Tamsin, a hot blonde cop who is also a Valkyrie. It's hard to add a character to a series where one already knows and loves the other characters, and get one to like him or her. But, this series is so good, that it accomplished that excellently! I would like to see her with Dyson, but last week got me think if she will make it a love square (instead of a triangle, get it?) with Bo.

Finally, at 11pm (OK 10:55 last night, to be exact), I had the first visit to Bates Motel. Now, I know it aired at the 10, but I caught the replay. You didn't think I was gonna miss Lost Girl did you? Anyway, taking place in modern times this is a sort of prequel to Psycho. The time frame and what happens makes this out of continuity of the series, though.

When, I first heard of this, I was like, "Uh why do we need a Psycho prequel series?! Didn't we get a prequel in the form of pt. IV? And, that was really, really middle of the road shit." But, having the beautiful Vera (Orphan) Farmiga as Norman Bates' (Freddie Highmore) mom made me say, "Well, I may watch it for her. Maybe." The eventual previews got me more curious, as did word of moth.

Last night's first episode was dark and well acted. This show has a lot of promise. Psycho pursists, think of this as an alternate universe. Understand, that I'm a huge fan of the first three movies, and that the first and third film are personal favorites of mine. Yet, I enjoyed the first episode, quite a bit.

Farmiga is so beautiful, that I was captivated by her every time she was onscreen. What a MILF! I am in love! I'm, also happy for Mondays,as they no longer are to be dreaded! Let the horror continue on the first day of the week, for here on in!
