Necrot- Blood Offerings (Album Review)

Musicians: Necrot
Album Title: Blood Offerings
Genre/ Subgenre: Death Metal
Label: Tankcrimes
Release date: June 9, 2017

Blood Offerings is the debut full-length album from Oakland, California's Necrot. They specialize in kick ass old school death metal and more than deliver on that in this blistering release. I first heard of them, when I reviewed their EP The Labyrinth last year, which I enjoyed quite a bit. That was a warm-up though, as this LP truly delivers the death metal goods!

The album opens with the scorcher ''The Blade''. The heavy and atmospheric opening to this track leads to a fast and unrelenting assault. ''Shadows and Light'' is a driving and battering blast of fury. The title song erupts from the very start with blastbeats exploding into a truly blistering and adrenaline charged experience. The chainsaw like shred and pounding sound of ''Beneath'' makes for all out battering attack and, perhaps, my personal favorite tune on the album. ''Layers of Darkness'' closes off this excellent album with what feels like a thundering and lightning fast attack.

Musicianship is top notch, as the trio produce the kind of extreme music that simply does not fuck around. They are a talented and fearsome force to be reckoned with. Their sound combines nicely with the evil and cool as fuck cover art by Marald Van (Bolt Thrower, Baroness) Haasteren. It solidifies this album as what could very well have come out in the late 80s or early 90s, from the underground.

Blood Offerings is the perfect album for fans who wish new bands would play old school death metal. It is proof that Necrot are torch carriers and the future of that distinct and beloved sound. The truth is that this album is the best extreme metal full length debut of the year, so far.
