Five Points Festival 2017, Part 1

On Sat, May 20, 2017, I attended the first day of a brand new, annual convention called Five Points Festival at Pier 36, NYC. This new event had a very fun and more relaxed and intimate feel than many of the larger comic cons. Devoid of celebrity guests, it focused more on comics, and even more on toys making this a wonderful experience, especially for those who are just looking for a kick ass and yet chill con experience. My only really complaint is the heavy lack of cosplay. There was hardly anyone who did it. But, I did cosplay as the Punisher, which I had not since Oct. Anyway, on to some of my favorite things that I saw at the con.

The gruesome statues you see above are from a collaboration between James Groman and Instinctoy. King Corpse has too be one of the coolest things I have ever seen. As a lifelong horror and monster fan, a zombified version of King Kong is everything!

The Sectaurs are coming back via a kickstarter. They are returning courtesy of their creator Tim Clarke and Tim Clarke Toys. I LOVED the Sectaurs as a kid! The cool bug toys are some of the best of the 80s, but are sadly underrated. Regardless, this campaign will have a special place in my heart. He also had some of his other toys on display.

One of my favorite things that I saw at Five Points has to be the oh so very cool, imganitive, and cute, work from The Naughty Rabbit. Hand crafted by the lovely and talented Elizabeth Holmes, these adorable bunny figurines cover a bunch of pop culture characters. They range through Star Wars, Back to the Future, The Guardians of the Galaxy, horror characters (both modern and classic Universal), and more. They are so fucking awesome! It is clear that she puts a lot of care and time into her work. She also does commissions. My favorite, in case you are wondering were Chewbaca and the Gillman from Creature from the Black Lagoon. Be sure to follow her on her Facebook, for more: https://www.facebook.com/rabbitashes/

Another truly awesome booth was House of Darkly. They had hand made plush dolls by the lovely and super talented Anne Kirn. She was on hand with her mom at the show. Both were very sweet and courteous, and I just loved her work! While, I was present she was busy making a specially fluffy guy (right). My favorite of her, has to be the Craft Beer, which you can see her holding up in the directly below pic. Be sure to go to her site for more info: https://twitter.com/house_of_darkly

The last booth that I will be talking about today is DC Collectibles. They had a couple of cool and highly stylized upcoming statues of iconic DC comics heroes and villains, including Catwoman, Batman, Superman, the Joker, and Harley Quinn.

To be continued...

Horror Crush: Samantha Phillips

Today, I induct a multi-talented beauty, Samantha Phillips, into this site's Horror Crushes section! One of my long time favorites, Phillips is a truly captivating heartbreaker!
Phillips was born on Feb. 25, 1966 (making her 51) in Savage, Maryland. She is an actress, talk-show host, radio DJ, producer, and model.
WARNING: There are SPOILERS to PHANTASM II contained in this article!
She first caught my eye, and my heart, in her second role, in Don Cosceralli's ass kicking sequel to his own classic, Phantasm II (1988). In it, she played Alchemy. It's an interesting and sexy role. She is picked up by our heroes Micheal and Reggie (James Le Gross and Reggie Banister, respectively), as she is hitchhiking. She also serves as a love interest for Reg, our balding, former ice-cream truck driver turned undead ass-kicker.
At the end, she turns out to be an agent of the evil Tall Man (the late, great Angus Scrimm, of course). Her origins are left up to you. Which is too say: was she always evil? Did she get turned evil by the Tall Man before they pick her up? Did she get turned evil by him, when they left her to go on her merry way, which happens to be how I interrupt it. Is there some other explanation? It's part of the fun of the role, and the film. She is really good, super sexy, and lively in her performance. Phillips has this underlying hint of naughtiness/ evil throughout the movie, that is great, and honestly, really hot!
She is so hot that she actually makes pulling off the side of one's head and revealing their brains, sexy!
And, speaking of sexy, Phillips has an amazing body, which she gives us a good look at in the film. She appears topless and has a wild sex scene with that lucky dude, Reggie. She dry humps him, and we learn that she has a bald dude fetish! As such, she slaps his balding head!! Anytime I watch this, including my first viewing as a kid, I think to myself: that this is either bullshit or if someone as hot as her has this fetish, then being bald, ain't half bad!

Phantasm II is a long time favorite of mine. I don't think it is the best film in the franchise (that would be the wonderfully original and imaginative first film), but it is the most fun. It is without a shadow of a doubt the best of the sequels in the franchise. The film fucking rocks hard and Phillips is a big part of its appeal. On a side note, I would be hard-pressed to not mention the film's lovely female lead Paula Irving, who is a cutie in her own right.
Phantasm II is unarguably her best role and film. She would appear in other genre movies, though. Among them is her second best film, Full Moon's fun Dollman (1991) where she played a character named Tina. I have not seen this movie in ages. And, while I liked it a lot, I can't for the life of me recall her in it. Her next horror project was The Bare Wench Project 2: Scared Topless (2001) from exploitation/ schlockmiester Jim Wynorksi. I have never seen this surely boob filled parody, but she plays Sam in it. She starred in one more movie for Wynorski called Cheerleader Massacre. I actually like his Sorority House Massacre II, so this could be right u my alley. Anyway, Phillips plays Officer Phillips in it, cause why not?
Any of you have any thoughts or info on her post Phantasm II horror roles? Tell in the comments below, if you do! I recall seeing her years later in 1998 on the Playboy TV sexy news show Sexcetera as a reporter for it. In my eternal love of horror and adult entertainment I was soooo happy to see her on it! But, that is a story for another article.
Samantha Phillips is one of the sexiest women to ever grace a horror franchise. She has a beautiful face and a drop-dead, perfectly gorgeous body. Multi-talented and a woman who just exudes sexiness Phillips owns the hearts of anyone who has laid their eyes on her. As such, she is a perfect addition to Horror Crushes!

Metallica Pop-Up Store NYC

On Friday, May, 12, 20017, to coincide with the beginning of the their world tour, the first Metallica pop-up store opened up on 96 Spring Street, here in NYC, where it will remain open till, today, Sunday, when they will be playing at the MetLife in New Jersey. The stores will follow the band as they continue their tour.
The stores carry merchandise that is exclusive to them and different from what you will be seeing at said tour. In case you are wondering, or care, I picked up the above blue T-shirt for $30.
Above you can see just some of the shirts that you can find there. The selection is really fucking cool. And, so is the store, which plays Metallica music inside, of course.
This merch, shown above, is made to look old and worn on purpose.
Below you can see where you go up to ask for the tees that you want. All of the people who work here are really nice and cool. And, the big plus is that they are also fellow Metallica fans. The dude in the second pic, with a beard and wearing a black Metallica tee, below, told us a tale of seeing them back in '82 when they opened for motherfucking Venom on that band's Black Metal tour! He said he became a fan since that moment, and knew that they would be the biggest band in the world. Fuck yeah, they are!
The next pic below is where they sell LPs and CDs, as well as a cool Metallica book on the classic Master of Puppets tour called Back to the Front. All of the albums, are needless to say, Metallica ones, expect for a NWOBH (that's the New Wave of British Heavy Metal for uninitiated) compilation put together by Lars himself.
There is a ton more stuff that they sell at the stores, including, but not limited to: beanies, hats, bandannas, mugs, beer cozies, posters, and more. Some of which can be found by the cashier (pic below),
I LOVE the flags from other countries showing their love for the mighty Metallica!

And, we end as we started, but this time with me posing next to the Metallica flag from the top of this article.
Are any of planning or have hit the store? If not you and you are a fellow fan of the band, you need to! Here are the dates and (in the case of NYC) times for the stores:

May 12 – 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.
May 13 – 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
May 14 – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The times for the other cities are TBD:
St. Louis, Missouri: June 2 – June 4
Houston, Texas: June 9 – June 11
Chicago, Illinois: June 16 – June 18

Sacrificial Slaughter- Generation of Terror (Album Review)

Musicians: Sacrificial Slaughter
Album Title: Generation of Terror
Genre/ Subgenre: Death/ Thrash Metal
Label: Horror Pain Gore Death Productions
Release date: May 12, 2017

Sacrificial Slaughter is a band from Anaheim, California, that mixes a classic death metal sound with thrash metal undertones. Their latest release,Generation of Terror, is a fast furious six-song EP that serves as a sonic bombardment on the senses.

From the moment the very first song, ''Systematic Genocide'', on the EP starts its clear that this will be a speed filled and unrelenting example of kick ass extreme metal. That song even has a crunching breakdown where the signer, Steve ''Crusty'' Worley, screams ''Let's go!'', right before it starts. The next track is the lightning fast ''Bodies in the Basement'' which might be the best song on the album. The drumming by Fred Tucker is merciless and unrelenting. Crunching and pounding it's way into neck-breaking existence is the next tune, the vicious ''Meticulous Abomination''.  A warning siren and marching serve as the opening for the blistering title track. It's anger filled and will whoop the ass of anyone who hears it. It is also highlighted by a wailing and ripping guitar solo. The anger continues on the piss and vinegar filled ''Bare Knuckle Beat Down'' which will beat you down with it's pounding music, blast beats, and soaring guitars. The album ends with a catchy and pissed off cover of the Carnivore thrash classic ''Race War''.

The musician is strong throughout , making for the type of music that will get you headbanging and wanting to kick a whole shit load of ass. It's the perfect soundtrack to utter destruction and mayhem. The influence of such old school death masters as Death, Vader, Suffocation, and Massacre, makes this a must for fellows fans of that era of extreme music.

Horror Crush: Angela Featherstone

Today's Horror Crush induction is a stunning and many times overlooked beauty: Angel Featherstone! She has at least two memorable horror roles and hopefully, this will contribute to her getting more recognition, from you, my loyal readers and friends!
Featherstone was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada on April 3, 1965, making her 52 years old. She has done a lot of movies and is probably best known from her TV roles on shows like Friends and Girls, stuff I would not be caught dead watching.
On the other hand, it is her second movie role that might be her most famous in the genre. That being the girl that Ash (Bruce Campbell) plants a kiss on at the end of Sam Raimi's Army of Darkness (1992). I remember seeing this in the movies and thinking, ''Damn. That chick is hot!'' One look at Featherstone and you can see that she has such stunning and beautiful eyes!

As cool as that bit role was, it's her next one that is her most memorable to me, as well as her best film. And, sorry to any AoD fans, I like that movie, but do not love it... Anyways, it is the Full Moon horror romantic horror flick Dark Angel: The Ascent (1995)
In it, she plays a demon named Veronica. She dreams of leaving hell, even if doing so is considered blasphemy. But, she does, along with her faithful dog Hellraiser. She finds love with a handsome doctor, and at the same time discovers the evils of this world. When she does she decides to go vigilante and slaughter their asses.

Dark Angel: The Ascent is one of Full Moon's best films. I love how well it mixes romance, splatter, and the vigilante film alongside of talks of theology and religion. It's a solid, funny, sexy, and, at times, shockingly gory flick

Featherstone is really good in her role. She perfectly mixes humor, sexiness, sympathy, innocence, and menace. It is a complex role, and she is more than up to it. Of course, she looks fucking gorgeous, throughout! It would be easy to fall in love with a demon that looks like her! And, as you can tell from some of these pics, she also get nude in the film. Featherstone shows off her perky boobs and glorious ass, when she escapes hell and later, in a tender love scene with her boyfriend in the movie.
Her third and, thus far, final horror role was in the godawful Soul Survivors (2001). This cinematic turd is boring, wimpy, and mostly forgettable. I truthfully don't remember jackshit about it, other than I hated it, and that it features a beautiful female cast, including Featherstone, of course. She played a lesbian in the movie and plays tonsil-hockey with the beautiful Eliza Dushku in one scene. I know there is an unrated version, which, I think, has a longer version of this or something like that (as opposed to the PG-13 version, which I suffered through). However, I cannot bring myself to watch this movie ever again. That being said, I can post pics, gifs for all of you guys, cause that's the type of kindhearted and thoughtful writer that I am!

A talented, sexy, and naturally beautiful actress, Angela Featherstone has long been a personal favorite of mine. With her amazing body, stunning eyes, and gorgeous face, she is a sight to behold. As said before, she is underrated, but I have always using this section to bring attention and love to lovely actresses who deserve it and might not get it. And, with that I welcome and induct Angela Featherstone into this site's Horror Crushes!
