Unborn Suffer are one of the heaviest and most brutal bands out there. And, on their sixth full length release, Commit(Ment T) Suicide there is not a single hint of them slowing their shit down. In fact, this is one of the most savage releases of 2020, a true fucking face ripper.

Their death/ grind sound is on full display in this album. It packs a walloping 27 songs in a mere 36 minutes! The music is intense and head crushing, as their playing combines with a battery of blast-beats and low end growls, screaming, and pig squeals. Songs range in length between 8 seconds and 2.16 minutes. Meanwhile, the production is dirty and helps to make the music sound as chaotic and unrelenting as possible,

"Cardboard Box" is blast-beat filled attack with pig squeals and enough viciousness to leave you battered and bloodied. "Solutions" opens up with a sample saying that there is "too many people on this Earth. We need a new plague", which is strangely chilling in our current world. The song, itself, has this really cool groove and striking drum sound that makes it both catchy and uncompromisingly ferocious, at the same time. The unbelievably barbaric "Point Zero" is a nasty and violently angry track that is probably my favorite. It's hammering blast-beats, slicing guitar riff, razor fast speed, and merciless breakdown leaves everything in its path in complete and utter destruction.

Unborn Suffer's Commit(Ment To) Suicide is committed to true brutality. It is one of the heaviest and most unstoppable releases of the year. Fans who love grindcore and their extreme metal as extreme as fucking possible take heed to this one!

Skinless- Savagery (Album Review)

Savagery maybe the most appropriately titled album of 2018. This pissed off and brutal sixth studio offering from brutal death metal crushers Skinless also happens to be one of the heaviest albums of this year.

The album grooves with anger and is an utterly merciless attack on the senses, as well as being uncompromising in its technically savvy and crushing sound. The killer and pounding sound mixes with shredding and speed that will beat you to bloody submission. They are accompanied by inhuman growling that achieves a brutality level that perfectly represents one of the most extreme sub-genres of metal.

The album opens up with its vicious title track, a decimating and pulverizing effort that beats the listener to the ground and leaves them a broken and in shattered pieces. "Skull Session" opens with a nightmarish like intro that heads into a groove filled pounding that pummels the listener like a jackhammer to, appropriately enough, one's skull. Speaking of pummeling, the anger filled, locomotive like "Exacting Revenge" goes between a super heavy groove and blast beats that seem destined to rip a head right off a body. "Line of Dissent" crunches with one of the most brutal grooves you are likely to hear, a slow and driving sound that builds into a bloody beatdown of death metal. Meanwhile, the bonus track, "High Rate Extinction" aims to set the mosh pit on fucking fire with its' merciless onslaught of crushing sound.

 

Savagery takes no prisoners and does not fuck around. Those in search of the most brutal and heavy music must take heed. But, what is most impressive is that despite its uncompromising sound it really knows how to you hook you into its' sound (well as long as you are into extreme metal). The groove makes you wanna trash everything in site and mosh straight to the bloody pits of hell. Topped off with a cool as fuck cover by tattoo artist Jesse Levitt; this is the brutal death metal release of 2018, so far, and will be hard to top by others in the sub-genre.

Neurogenic- Ouroboric Stagnation (Album Review)

Neurogenic are a truly brutal Russian/ US/ Italian death metal machine. Oruboric Stagnation is their debut album, and it is an uncompromising and truly vicious slab of extreme music. There guys are gonna be a force to be reckoned with in the underground scene!  

The songs are fast, brutal, and angry, averaging about 2 minutes and half, more or less, each. They are an all out assault of speed with blast beats, by amazing US drummer Marco (Six Feet Under) Pitruzzella, throughout. It sounds like machine gun fire accompanied by riffs that only slow down to crunch and pummel. Each song is a savage attack from opening to finish accompanied by guttural and inhuman growling from Italy's Matteo (Indecent Excision) Bazzanella.

"Immersion" begins with a discordant intro that goes into a Rambo rapid-fire attack. "Endless Outrage" speeds and crunches forward with pummeling ferocity. The shortest song on the album, clocking in at 1:31, "Vortex of Creation" is a crunching instrumental that actually ranks as one of my utmost favorite tracks. By the time the album closes with with "Eternal Path of Enslaved" you will have experienced one of the most savage and unrelenting debuts of the year.

Filled with speed, ferocious technical talent, and unbridled savagery Neurogenic's Ouroboric Stagnation is definitely one that fans of truly brutal and extreme death metal will want to own.

Blasphemer- Ritual Theophagy (Album Review)

Six years after their EP, Devouring Deception, the brutal, Italian death metal mavens known as Blasphemer are back. Ritual Theophagy is their second full length album, and it is absolutely brutal and unrelenting.

This trio deliver music that is evil, extreme, and down right savage. Righteously unholy, and well, blasphemous, the music fires on all cylinders. The drumming by Darren Cesca is a pure blast beat assault. It as accompanied by vicious guitar shredding and the brutal, growling, multi-vocals.

"Worship in the Void" is a thundering attack of speed and anger. "Annihilated Divinity" feels like a freight train pummeling towards you at breakneck speeds. Chanting leads into a dark and brutal aural attack that feels like you are being bombed from above in the vicious "Obscuring the Holy Light", which only slows down (if you can even call it that) for some savage crunching. It might be my favorite track on the album. To prove that they are not just about speed, the track "Fetishistic Idolatry of the Cross" begins with more mid-tempo crunching only build up, slow down and build up again, while always remaining heavy and evil as fuck.

With an appropriate band name and evil, truly brutal, music this anti-Christian monster has delivered one of the heaviest releases I have heard in the last couple of weeks, if not months. Blasphemer's Ritual Theophagy is sure to please fans of bands like Deicide, when it gets released on Oct. 14, 2016.

The Black Dahlia Murder at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, NY 4/16/16

Last night, on April 16, 2016, I attended, as press, The Black Dahlia Murder (TBDM) show at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, NY. TBDM have long been one of my personal favorite death metal bands. In fact, their latest release, Abysmal, was my pick for album of the year last year. As such, I am very happy to report that whole night was a night of brutal, savage, and kick ass death metal!

Opening up the night was the savage music of Disentomb. Hailing from Australia this is brutal death metal at it's most fucking brutal. The music they played was just pummeling. I had never heard them before, but holy fuck are they ever awesome! This is exactly my cup of blood, and they fucking killed it, in my book. The drumming, and just everything else about them, is ferocious and make for one of the best opening acts I have ever seen at a show. In all, they truly fucking destroyed!

 

 

The next band up was progressive death metal act Fallujah. Hailing from San Fransisco, California, these guys have a complex and highly technical sound. There are lots of tempo changes and amazing musicianship on display. The music, itself, is always remains heavy as fuck, even as it mixes jazzy parts, deathcore breakdowns, and technically proficient death metal. It makes for a significantly original sound that sets them apart from so many other acts in the subgenre. 

 

 

 
It was soon time for the headlines, The Black Dahlia Murder to come and tear shit up. By the time, they did the sold-out crowd was all in attendance, and it was packed to the rafters. And, from the moment they came onstage to the last song they played, it was utter fucking mayhem unleased on earth.

They, of course, played lots of songs from their aforementioned and utterly awesome latest release Absymal. Among the killers tracks that they played from that album were "Receipt", "Vlad, Son of the Dragon", "Threat Level No. 3". They also played classics from their other releases including such favorites like "Nocturnal", "Moonlight Equilibrium" (which had signer Trevor Strnad ask the fans to bark like dogs before they played it!), and "I Will Return".

I cannot stress enough just how awesome a live band TBDM is. Not only do they sound every bit as good as they do on their albums, but they are just such a fun band to experience. They really know how to get the pit going. It was fucking brutal in there! I saw at least one dude who had blood running down his face. When he noticed, he just smiled! That's fucking badass, man! There was also some stage-diving and crowd-surfing. The fact is that pretty much the whole audience would jump and move around adding to an awesome and epic concert!

 Trevor is such an awesome frontman! I would say that he is one of the coolest in death metal.

 

This is Victor. Apparently he is a huge fan of TBDM. The band knows him, and Trevor asked the fans to have him crowd-surf for whole duration of one song.

 It wouldn't be a TBDM if Trevor didn't get shirtless!

 Not gonna lie, meeting Trevor was a huge highlight for me!

Unborn Suffer- Nihilst (Album Review)

Polish band Unborn Suffer are back with their fifth album, entilted Nihilist. It's certainly a fitting title for this pummeling release. This is without a shadow of a doubt the most savage releases, that I have heard thus far this year.

There are seventeen tracks in total. Most of the songs are very short in nature. The shortest one is "Post Aburtom pt 3" at 8 seconds, while the longest, "Life Is a Lie" clocks in at just 3:06 minutes. As such the songs come fast and furious, and the album never lets up.

Musically it is as if your being bludgeoned to death by Flash nemesis the Reverse Flash. There are blastbeats galore and guitars that go between lightning fast and crunching viciousness. They accompany vocals (from signer/ bass Piotr "Bexdreadrock" Wisniewsk) that range from inhuman screaming to low guttural growling.While there isn't a throwaway track to be found here, some really standout. Songs like the aforementioned "Life Is a Lie", "Extorted Humanity", the vicious "Destroy What Destroy Us" and the piss and venom filled "Self Purification" are true experiences in uncompromising brutality. Yet, the band isn't above having a sense of humor, as evident by the track "Grind Until I Die" with it's fun title and the ending where Wisniewsk coughs from signing in the way that he does.
Nihilist puts the brutal in brutal death metal. It's grindcore at it's fastest and most face bashing. If your looking one of the heaviest and most barbaric new albums out there, then look no further than this one. Oh and extra points for the cool, old-school style, death metal cover artwork!***1/2 out of *****
