A Farewell to Shawn Michaels

Last night was a tear filled farewell from Shawn Michaels, born Michael Shawn Hickenbottom on July 22, 1965, as the Heartbreak Kid officially retired from pro-wrestling. This is my tribute to him. But, I should warn you that while I respect Shawn, I am not a fan. I am, though, a wrestling fan, as such I know what he contributed to this great sport. So, I think because of that this one will be a little different than other tributes.

While, Shawn had been in the AWA, my first exposure to him would come when he and tag partner Marty Jannetty would first appear in the WWF. Formerly the Midnight Rockers, upon entering the WWF, they dropped the Midnight in the their name and became, simply, The Rockers. The Rockers were one of my fav tag teams growing up. They were talented and very influential on future tag teams that were to come in pro-wrestling. They would eventually hold the tag titles, but alas all good things most come to an end, as Shawn turned heel. In one of the most memorable turns in all of wrestling, he gave Jannetty a superkick through the glass on Brutus Beefcake's Barber Shop set.

That made Shawn into one of my most hated heels, of that period in time. He became a conceited asshole and soon had the beautiful Sherri Martel, no longer managing Randy Savage, as his manager/ valet. Sherri, said, was in love with the "Boy Toy". She even sang the lyrics to the original version of his entrance song, thus he became "The Heartbreak Kid". As, I said I hated Shawn during this time, but that only meant that he was doing a great job as a heel. But, he came out with Sherri, one of my biggest crushes growing up, so I looked forward to see her! He would eventually drop Sherri, and become his own man. He would even have Big Daddy Cool Diesel as his bodyguard. All of this was shaping him into the superstar he would become. He also held the Intercontinental Title. But, was destined for even better things...

One of his best matches was for the vacated IC belt in a ladder match with Razor Ramon. Again, Shawn was influencing all that was to come in the biz. He would eventually turn face. And, this would lead to his biggest push, yet. He would get his first world title against Bret Hart in their classic Iron Man Match at Wrestlemania XII. From here on many of my most memorable Michaels, including the passing out bit on Raw and the "I lost my smile" thing would occur.

As the face of wrestling changed to a more mature attitude, i.e. the WWF Attitude Era, Shawn was at the forefront with his new heel faction, D-Generation X, which was him and his real life buddy Hunter Hearst Helmsley (HHH) and his then girlfriend Chyna. The factions catch phrase "SUCK IT!" while crotch chopping and crude sense of humor was unlike anything I had every seen. This became my fav period in HBK's career. But, the Montreal Screwjob, where Bret Hart lost the title belt to him, would make me hate Shawn more than ever. But, DX was so much fun, I spent a good deal of my college life imitating him (and others, as well). My absolute fav Shawn Michaels/ DX promo:

Shawn was injured though and would have to drop the belt to Austin. He would not return till 1999 and do some on and off things with the WWF. He even joined the nWo at one point. I totally marked for him joining them! But, it was time for him to get back in the ring. And, he would do that in 2002, first having a great feud with HHH, that led to some hellacious matches. Of course, he would recapture gold, as well. Most impressive was the quality of matches that he could still pull off. And, he had it with the best of them. He even had a dream match against Hulk Hogan, in an angle I was totally marking out for.

By this point Shawn had found God in his life, so gone were the dick jokes and such. Shawn's own religious beliefs came into play when he feuded with Vince. Vince even made Shawn tag team with God in one of the stupidest things I had ever seen. Anyways, DX would return, with only HHH and HBK. HBK could not be doing the type of shit he used to, being religious and all, but HHH did. I though this return of DX was OK.

As, the WWE changed and entered the PG era the next return of DX was shit to me. Still, Shawn did, still, have great matches. I never really cared for his babyface promos, but man, he could still give it his all in a wrestling match. And, so this Sunday he lost to the Undertaker in a good match (though, I prefer their WM match from last year more).

He delivered a very emotional speech last night on WWE Monday Night Raw. And, although I sure as hell did not want him to end Taker's streak and wanted to see him go, I was still saddened. It was not as emotional for me as it was seeing Flair (who ended up not retiring, and going to TNA) leave. But, Michaels had some of my fav matches ever. And, some of my favorite moments, too.

Here is a little piece of that speech:

For that I that I say "THANK YOU, SHAWN MICHAELS!" God bless him. For he is the:
THE SHOWSTOPPER
THE MAIN EVENT
THE ICON
THE HEARTBREAK KID,
SHAWN MICHAELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wrestling: Raw, TNA Impact! ratings, and Babes

I been watching a lot more wrestling than I had been, for better or for worse...

- Is this show really suppose to be the flagship show for the WWE? Cause, if so, God help us all... Last night, like every Monday Night, it was a load of festering shit. While, I hate what the WWE does with women's division of wrestling, I have to say that Santina/ Santino is the most entertaining thing on Raw. And, that dear friends and readers, is fucking sad. I laughed pretty hard last night, when they tried to out Santina to be Santino by having Rosa Menedes kiss her/ him. She/ he then revealed himself to be a... lesbiano!!!!! Funny stuff, and Rosa is a total babe , but still really fucking stupid! Here is the clip:

Speaking of stupid, I have mentioned my hatred, or as he would say it, "loathing" of Batista. Well, I stand by that. Last night, he once again made Legacy look like his bitches, in a bunch of terrible and boring segments and two matches. I genuinely like Legacy , but jeez, this faction is simply NOT what it should be. It, at this point in time, will not ever be the Horsemen, the nWo, or DX. Shit, they ain't even Evolution. The Main Event Mafia are a way better faction.

TNA Impact!- Speaking of the MEM, TNA Impact! has been getting some good ratings, that keep on the up slope. TNA has been pretty good these last few weeks, so I am hoping they keep this up. They have some good matches, good segments and promos, and are just entertaining. Four out of the five highest rated segments recently have all had Scott Steiner in them. I am a long time fan of Big Poppa Pump , so this is cool news to hear. Check out his highly rated segment with a pogo stick a few weeks ago:

The one thing I still don't get is what the fuck are they doing with Samoa Joe ? This Nation of Violence thing is turning out to be kind of lame.

Maryse
- I really like this blonde, French-Canadian bombshell. She is the second hottest woman in wrestling right now, I think. And, props to her cause she keeps getting better as an in the ring talent all the time. She is working that nice ass of hers rather well, I would say!

Gail Kim - But of course, to me, the hottest woman remains Gail Kim. But, sadly she has been made to job cleanly to both Maryse and, even worse, Michelle McCool. Why? How is this talented, beautiful woman being used so badly by the WWE?! What the fuck are they thinking?! I just don't get it! While they pay better in the WWE, Gail was better off in TNA, where she was over as their top female babyface. I hope she is pushed the way she should be and soon.

Daffney - I been a fan of the lovely Daffney since her days in the WCW. Gorgeous, fun, and spunky, it is great to see that this babe is back in full goth mode. Look how yummy she looks in this awesome segment, featuring two other dudes I am a huge mark for Dr. Stevie and Abyss:

I am pretty sure that this is will lead to something involving Lauren, which is cool by me. By the way, Lauren is a babe , too. Anyways, getting back to Daffney, I had the pleasure of meeting her a few years back at Chiller. She was dressed as Wonder Woman and looked so cute! I have pics, but they are put away in my basement. So, sadly I can't post 'em here.

One more thing go to FYE, they have some awesome sales on older WWE DVDs, some for as low as 13 bucks!

WrestleMania 25 and Beyond

This past Sunday marked the 25th anniversary of WrestleMania, aka WrestleMania XXV. I have pretty mixed thoughts on it, but lets start with the Hall of Fame induction.

I like all the inductees, but Koko B. Ware , really?! I mean I loved the guy as a kid, but wasn't he nothing more than a glorified jobber?! Look, I have nothing against the guy, but when guys like Ted DiBiase ain't in there, you gotta be like what the fuck?! In fact, when will he be in the HOF? He is one of the greatest heels, ever! The following should be in the Hall of Fame, as well: Paul Heyman, Eric Bischoff, Miss Elizabeth, Randy "Macho Man" Savage, "Ravishing" Rick Rude, etc. I would say Jake "The Snake" Roberts (one of my absolute favorites, as a kid), but his recent actions, i.e. pulling down his pants and showing off his "snake", really hurt his chances. Anyways, still great to see "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Rick "The Dragon" Steamboat, among others, get inducted.

In regards to Austin, no bird flipping, cause WWE is now PG. *sigh* Least he can still drink beer...

Meanwhile, Steamboat can still fucking go, as his match with Jericho proved on Sunday. Same goes for the match he was involved in, the next day on Raw. I've been a Steamboat fan since I was a child, so seeing this made me happy. Piper and Snuka should have stayed home, though...

To me, the best match of the night was Money in the Bank, but CM Punk should not have won. Yeah, I like the guy, but he won it last year. Give it to Shelton Benjamin. Why does the WWE not push this guy, why?!

Everyone on the net has declared HBK vs. Undertaker match of the night, perhaps of the year. Hey, it was good but not great. HBK even botched a figure four.

The Hardys match was good fun. Much better than their last match, but then again it could not be any worse, right?

On to the bad:

Please, tell me why they did not air the tag team unification bout, but they did air that shit match with JBL and Rey Mysterio?! But, that was not the worst match, of the night...

That dishonor belongs to the Diva's Battle Royale. Your winner was: Satania Morella, i.e. Santino in drag. Why?! Cause, WWE sucks ass. A total disgrace to the Divas!!!!!! Fuck you Vince McMahon and WWE!!!

I was looking forward to the HHH vs. Orton match, cause the storyline was so well done. Well, sadly that match sucked and did not live up the hype. Oh, and as I expected Cena is your champ, again. And, on Raw Batista came back... Yay! Another asshole, I could give two shits about... By the way, does he not look like he is taking a mean shit, in this pic?

Overall, WrestleMania XXV gets "thumbs in the middle" from me. I had fun cause I saw it with friends. I would have enjoyed it A LOT less if I had seen it by myself. And, more so this ain't worth anywhere near the price the WWE wanted for the PPV.

Getting back to the Divas, as I said in a blog before, I am so happy Gail Kim is back. By now, you long time readers and friends, know that I am a huge mark for her. This babe fucking rules wrestling. I love her. She is beautiful and talented and an all around nice person . You know the type they should give a super push to. I hope they do, but this is the WWE, so...

Meanwhile, I would like to say, though now where near as talented as Gail, Michelle McCool is hot. And, so is Maryse . And, you can thank me cause here are some Playboy pics of her! While, Gail is definitely more my type; I still like these blonde hotties.

Speaking of blondes with big boobs, it is being that Debra McMicheals, aka the ex-Mrs. Steve Austin, wants to return to wrestling and go to TNA. Debra has nice legs and a good, albeit, fake rack. I wouldn't mind seeing her back but could careless if she doesn't...

A Farewell to "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair

Now, i missed Wrestle Mania XXIV cause, well quite frankly the WWE blows, nowadays, but I hear it was a good show. i think I will get the DVD when it hits stores.

Anywho, the major thing people have been talking about is the Flair-HBK match. It is said to be Flair's last match.

Now, as a kid, my only exposure to wrestling was WWF, but I knew of Ric Flair. Anywys, i loved it when he came to the WWF. His feud with Savage was classic and ahead of it's time, with it's storyline of pics of Miss. Elizabeth. It made Ric Flair a true scumbag heel.

While, Flair could play face, well, he was best as heel. The man could not only wrestle amazing matches and carry under-talented wrestlers, but he cut some of the greatest promos ever. When he called Bishoff a son of a bitch, it was one of the greatest moments in WCW Nitro history.

Flair had great memorable feuds with guys like Sting, Steamboat, Hogan, Race, the aforementioned Savage, Rhodes, etc. I would eventually see many of old NWA/ WCW matches on the excellent DVD: The Ultimate Ric Flair Collection. If you you can find it (it is pretty old after all) you should totally get it!

He was a part of the Horsemen. Sure some incarnations sucked ass (Paul Roma? Mongo McMichaels?), but without them we would have had had no nWo, D-X, or Evolution (OK, no Evolution would not have been a bad thing, as they were a Horsemen rip-off all the way, IMHO).

I had the pleasure of meeting the Nature Boy a few years ago, when his excellent auto-biography came out. He signed that for me and his DVD.

Last night's Raw was forgettable crap, except for the classy good-bye to Flair that had classic wrestlers like Steamboat, Valentine, Rhodes, etc., all of the WWE roster, and his family come out. He cried, and it made me tear up.

Flair will be missed in the ring. God bless him. Long live the Nature Boy! WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
