Trivium Announce New Album + Share "Feast of Fire" Video

TRIVIUM ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM IN THE COURT OF THE DRAGON

BAND SHARES OFFICIAL VIDEO FOR NEW SONG "FEAST OF FIRE," WHICH IS STREAMING NOW — WATCH

BAND TOURING WITH MEGADETH + LAMB OF GOD THIS SUMMER

Grammy-nominated band TRIVIUM — Matt Heafy [vocals, guitar], Corey Beaulieu [guitar], Paolo Gregoletto [bass], and Alex Bent [drums] — have announced that they will release their tenth album, titled In The Court Of The Dragon, on October 8 via longtime label Roadrunner Records. The record was produced and mixed by Josh Wilbur and recorded in the Fall of 2020 at Full Sail University in Orlando.

 Pre-orders are live here.

The band has also shared the new song "Feast Of Fire," which is joined by an official music video. Watch it here.

The footage was filmed at the band's HQ — The Hangar in Orlando. It was shot by director John Deeb.

"There's always that one song you aren't expecting when you begin writing a new album," says Gregoletto about the song and, in turn, sharing an inside look at the band's songwriting process. "It could be a riff written on the spot in the rehearsal space, a lyric that pairs just right with a melody, or in the case of 'Feast Of Fire,' sitting right there in front of us in the middle of a demo that Corey brought in. We were well into pre-production at Full Sail when we all decided that something about the demo we had tracked was good but could be even better. Our producer Josh Wilbur even had in his notes: 'Bridge is special, maybe so special it needs its own song.' We tore the song apart and began again on the spot."

He continues, "We went into this album knowing we had time to consider everything and anything that came about during this period, and if need be, we could start again if it didn’t feel right given that no touring was on the horizon."

Further pulling back the curtain, he says, "I had the words 'Feast Of Fire' written in my running list of notes for lyric ideas that I try to amass before we record. Something about the phrase stuck out to me. It felt like the missing piece of the story we were trying to tell with this album, a climactic moment and a real centerpiece for the narrative."

He finishes, "After all these years, I'm still blown away at how a song can really appear out of thin air and take the album to a place you weren't expecting. Those are the moments we are always looking for when making a record."

The album cover is an original oil painting by French artist Mathieu Nozieres (@mathieunozieres on Instagram)

"While the music of In The Court Of The Dragon was taking shape, we knew we needed epic artwork of the type that you might see on the wall of an important museum from a long dead renaissance master," says Heafy. "After extensive research, we found one of the few living artists who is capable of creating artwork like Caravaggio and Gentileschi — painter Mathieu Nozieres. Mathieu took our song title and created an original oil painting on canvas unlike anything we could have ever imagined. It's so staggeringly breathtaking and epic and it looks like what the song and album sounds like."

The oil painting, which is also featured in both new videos, will be on display at the Bloodstock Festival from August 11 through 15 at the on site R.A.M. Art Gallery. This marks the painting's first public showing. The first 100 fans to view it in the gallery will receive a free poster of the image.

Last month, Trivium shared the album's title track, "In The Court Of The Dragon," which featured an epic intro composed and orchestrated by Ihsahn (Emperor) and was accompanied by an official short film music video directed by Ryan Mackfall. Loudwire called out the song as "a skillful blend of dynamics. And blast beats just sound really, really good beneath Matt Heafy's soothing clean singing" while Revolver labeled it "epic."

Trivium released its now-canonical album Ascendancy in 2005. It was recognized as KERRANG!'s "Album of the Year," achieved a gold certification in the UK, and eclipsed sales of 500,000 worldwide. Metal Hammer placed it in the Top 15 of "The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of the 21st Century." Knucklebonz Rock Toy Fair 2018

If I had to pick one booth as my favorite for this year's edition of Toy Fair, then it had to be the awesome Knucklebonz! The beautifully accurate rock statues are a metalhead's dream come true! As a life long fan of heavy metal and hard rock music, I was in fucking heaven as soon as I saw their product!

Man, I always feel that there needs to be more Vic Rattlehead (Megadeth's mascot) merch, as there is hardly any at all. Thank the metal gods for Knucklebonz, then!
In fact, they definitely are going to be making fellow Megadeth fans very happy!

There is also a lot for Kiss and Guns N' Roses fans to look forward to!

Lemmy is what first caught my attention and made me head over in a heartbeat over to this booth!

Megadeth at Terminal 5 NYC 3/17/16

This past St. Patty's day, I had the luck to attend the second of two straight days of the mighty Megadeth's NYC dates at Terminal 5. They have been one of my personal favorite bands since I was a young teen, but this was my first time seeing them in concert. And, I can honestly say that the show fucking ruled!

The first band I got to see their full set was another one, I had wanted to see perform live for ages, Finnish melodic death metal masters, Children of Bodom! They played a couple of songs off of their latest release, I Worship Chaos, including the kick ass title as well some classics. Among those was a blistering live performance of one my favorite songs of theirs: "In Your Face". That song is so fucking badass! Their performed amazingly on this night. CoB are such a technically awesome band, with talent that just drips out of every instrument that they touch. And, their signer/ guitarist Alexi Laiho, has long been one of my heroes.

Up next is the only band, I had seen before live, coincidentally at the very same venue a couple of years back: crossover thrash metal legends Suicidal Tendencies! From the first song, the classic "You Can't Bring Me Down" to the closing song, "Pledge Your Allegiance" (one of my favorite songs, of all time!), they killed it onstage!! And, there is no denying that front-man Mike Muir is the fucking man. He spent the whole show running and moving around from one side of the stage to the other. Not to mention he said some pretty cool/ inspirational things between songs. Former Slayer and legendary drummer Dave Lombardo played for them about a song or two into the set. It was AWESOME to see him with ST!! They'll be back for a headliner show, in the fall, I think he said. I hope to be there!

Soon it was time for one of the greatest metal bands of all time, a member of The Big Four: Megadeth!! The set opened with the technically awesome "Hanger 18", while alien autopsy footage played in the background. They ran some cool video images with all their songs. The set-included songs of off their awesome new album Dystopia, including the title track, "The Threat Is Real", my favorite track off the album- "Post American World", and others. Of course, they played classics, too, like "Trust", "Wake Up Dead", "Sweating Bullets", "In My Darkest Hour", and more.
They closed off the night with "Holy Wars... The Punishment Is Due". Throughout the whole, they proved that they are one of most technically amazing bands in all of rock and metal, and that they are just so amazing live. My only complaints are that they never played the last part of "Peace Sells", instead going right into the aforementioned "Holy Wars", and that they didn't play something off of Youthansia. Alternately, thank God they played nothing off of the preceding two albums (TH1RT3EN and Super Collider) or Risk. Anyway, the point is they are metal gods and played as such that night. A great tour, that if you can catch, you simply have to!

The 175 Greatest Heavy Metal Album Covers of all Time Pt. 16: 10-1

Finally! Here it is! The top 10 heavy metal album covers of all time! I'm sorry for the delay. Anyway, let's get to them, without any further adieu!

10. Iron Maiden- The Number of the Beast- Man is a puppet to the Devil who, in turn, is a puppet to Eddie, the Maiden mascot in this classic cover by Derek Riggs. It's one of the greatest and most iconic covers to one of THE greatest and most iconic albums ever, made. Also, it proves that Eddie is more powerful and awesome than Satan! And, don't forget this is the first album with Bruce Dickinson as the signer!!! A landmark album in every way shape and form!

9. Obituary- The End Complete- This amazing cover is for the third and best selling Obituary album, ever. Everything is amazing on it. From the desolate place it depicts to dragonizied version of the already cool Obituary logo!

8. Judas Priest- Metal Works 73-93- This compilation of Priest songs released at their 20th anniversary has a beautiful, exciting, and kick ass collage of the band's album covers as drawn by Mark Wilkinson. The battle between the Painkiller and the Hellion at top are breathtaking and badass to the max!

7. Type O Negative- Bloody Kisses (Digipak cover)- While, the original version of this cover of the third album from these Brooklyn metal masters was sexy and cool, the digipak version is ever HOTTER. The two girls actually locking lips in a delicious image. Metalhead boys and girls were immediately turned on, even more than before. The album, itself, is a 90 metal masterpiece!!!

6. Megadeth- Rust in Peace- The fourth album by Megadeth is their finest moment and a thrash metal classic! The sci-fi/ political cover has Eddie, an energy stone, an alien, and then leaders of the world. Not only is their finest moment, but Vic Rattlehead (the band mascot) as well!!

5. Obituary- Cause of Death- This classic death metal album is the second by the band. The cover is done Michael Whelan and was originally going to be used on Sepultura's Beneath the Remains, which instead used different art by the same artist. This cover would also be used on an HP Lovercraft collection.

4. Judas Priest- Painkiller- The twelfth and, in my humble opinion best, album by these British gods of metal features truly kick ass and exciting art with the Painkiller himself. He's riding off to whoop some fucking ass, surely! He seems triumphant as hell. So, maybe he already whooped some ass!

3. Iron Maiden- Live after Death- This classic live album, one of the genre's very best might I add, by Iron Maiden has such amazing art by Derek Riggs. It continues the story of Eddie, who is resurrected after being lobotomized in Piece of Mind. He also still has the chains from the Powerslave tour. The tombstone has a quote from HP Lovercraft, that reads as follows:
"That is not dead which can eternal lie
Yet with strange aeons even death may die."
It also reads Eddie's full name: Eddie T. H., referring to The Head, with the last name being obscured.
An all, this art is something straight out of a zombie movie and awesome for that!

2. Sepultura- Arise- The fourth album by the Brazilian thrash gods is their masterpiece on of the finest thrash/ death metal crossover albums, ever. The Lovecraftain/ sci-fi/ nightmarish cover is one of the coolest, most complex, and original covers ever. And, hence it gets the runner up award.

1. Iron Maiden- Somewhere in Time- The greatest cover ever is this, the studio sixth album by Maiden. Derek Riggs give us a kick ass  Blade Runner type futuristic world for Eddie to walk through with his gun. Allusions to other Maiden albums and songs abound in the complex, colorful, and eye-catching background. The use of the iconic Eddie, the setting, the richness and complexity, all amounts to it winning my top stop!

The 175 Greatest Heavy Metal Album Covers of all Time Pt. 15: 20-11

We are getting down to very best!! Here are the first half of the top 20 heavy metal album covers of all time!!

20. AC/DC- Highway to Hell- The fifth international release by these Aussie hard rockers is a classic of the highest order. It would be the last one that they recorded with their late, great signer Bon Scott and is my favorite album with him, as well as my second favorite of the band over all. It's iconic cover featuring the band is undoubtedly one of the greatest covers in all of hard rock.

19. Emperor- In the Nightside Eclipse- This is the first studio release by these masters of true Norwegian black metal. It is one of the absolute greatest and most influential in the history of black metal. The beautiful and creepy cover art was drawn by Kristian "Necrolord WÃ¥hlin. It depicts orcs going to Minas Morgul, a city from J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-Earth.

18. Danzig- Thrall: Demonsweatlive- The cover to this highly successful Danzig EP is done by Simon Bisley and has the feel of something out of a Conan story. The use of swords, boobs, muscles, and the Danzig skull depicted in such stunning art makes it probably the best looking cover on an EP ever!

17. Celtic Frost- To Mega Therion- The second album by the Swiss extreme metal band has an amazing and blasphemous cover by H.R. Giger named Satan I. The title is Greek for the "great beast" and is one of the truly great and most influential albums in all of extreme metal, having inspired many a death and black metal band.

16. Metallica- Master of Puppets- The third studio album by thrash gods Metallica is, IMHO, the single greatest metal album EVER. The classic cover was designed by Metallica and Peter Mensch and was painted by Don Brautigam. In it a graveyard is manipulated by a puppet master seen only by his hands.

15. Anthrax- Spreading the Disease- The second studio album by NY thrashers Anthrax was the first to have Joey Belladonna on vocals and Frank Bello on bass. The cover of a metal looking dude being looked on by guys in hazmat suits is perhaps the band's most popular cover. It is also happens to be their best looking one.

14. Cradle of Filth- The Principle of Evil Made Flesh- The debut by these black metallars has a cover that has everything I could ask for: hot lesbian vampire babes and blood! It is a stock image from founder of horror company Redemption, Nigel Wongrove's portfolio.

13. Entombed- Left Hand Path- This phenomenal debut from the Swedish death metal masters is incredibly influential and important to the sub-genre. The cover which features a tombstone, slime, a desolate, creepy place, and monster in hiding, is pure death metal!!

12. Cannibal Corpse- Butchered at Birth- The third studio album by this death metal act is one of it's most controversial. The graphic cover of a zombie literally eating out a tied and butchered female corpse is the stuff that will piss off anyone with a closed mind. Offensive and truly awesome this one really sums up the band at this time period perfectly!

11. Megadeath- Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?- The second album by theses thrashers is one of their finest. The cover in which their mascot Vic Rattlehead is selling the decrypt and bombarded United Nations building is a genuinely classic metal image. It's done by Ed Repka and so perfectly captures the title track and the political nature of the band.
