GODZILLA VS. DESTROYAH (Review)

With Godzilla Resurgence coming next month to the US for a very limited theatrical run, I thought it would be fun to review a couple of movies from the series. Here is my first one:

Title: Godzilla Vs. Destroyah
Director: Takao Okawara
Writer: Kazuki Ohmori
Cast: Takuro Tatsumi, Yoko Ishino, Yasumfumi Hayashi, Megumi Odaka, Sayaka Osawa
Min: 103
Year: 1995

Godzilla appears with glowing rashes and attacks. It turns out that he is having a nuclear meltdown, and if he blows up the Earth will die with him. A way to stop our reptilian hero from going nuclear must be found. And, speaking of found, at the same time G-Force is searching for the younger Godzilla creature, Junior. Who unlike the ridiculous Minilla actually looks like a young Godzilla creature. Meanwhile, the Oxygen Destroyer from Gojira, that killed the first Godzilla, has mutated some prehistoric crustaceans into nasty monsters. Eventually, they combine into one giant monster called Destroyah, bent on killing and, well, destroying everything it's path, including our soon to go ka-boom, Godzilla.
Advertised, at the time, as featuring the death of Godzilla, Godzilla Vs. Destroyah is one of the most emotional in the series, as well as one of it's finest. Most of FX are top-notch, with some solid creature costume work and miniatures. The actual Destroyah monster is massive and one of the series most righteously evil and intimidating looking monsters. He comes off as a legitimate threat to the Big-G, and you feel like this fucker could seriously hurt or even kill him. And, that is no small (pun not intended) feat. The smaller Destroyah creatures are a little more fake looking, but aren't enough to distract from the movie, itself.
Admit ably, the scene involving those monsters lifts A LOT from Aliens. I would like to think this is meant to be an homage and not a blatant rip-off. Regardless, that and other action scenes are very rousing and exciting. The extended climatic battle between the monsters is especially awesome. It's one of the most violent in the series with spraying and dripping blood, both of the green and yellow colored variety.
The acting is good, and thankfully the humans story here isn't that bad. The characters are fine as is, and while none of them are particularly memorable, it's not like movie suddenly sucks when the monsters aren't onscreen. Besides, the two girls searching for Junior help to add a good amount of human heart to it all.
Exciting, kick ass, and with some good amount of heart Godzilla Vs. Destroyah is a great entry in the long running franchise (the 22nd to be precise!). It stands heads and shoulders above many others in the Big-G's film career and was a great way to end this part of the series, as one was not made again till five later with Godzilla 2000. Sony released a blu-ray of it, packaged with Godzilla Vs. Megaguirus just a few years ago. The disc looks damn good and has great sound that will make the bass on your sound system rock. This gives you yet another reason to watch this awesome monster mash.

Nikkatsu Roman Porno: Trailer Collection

Nikkastu is the oldest major studio in Japan. From the 70s to 1988, they made censorship pushing erotica that fell into various genres. These movies were known as Roman (as in romance, NOT the Italian city) Pornos. While, crotch and insertion shots were not permitted (still aren't and thus get optical censoring), these movies were still extremely sexy and successful.

This is a collection of trailers of some of these movies. Impulse Pictures will be releasing twenty-five of them! You get a good taste of these flicks, here.

The trailers get a teensy bit repetitive, after a while, and it can be hard to tell the difference between some movies. But, the stunning women and sheer hotness will keep your eyes interested, throughout. The Japanese fetishes that might may make some get a little shocked include stuff like peeing and, to us Americans, most shocking of all: rape. Other fetishes are pretty much common porn fodder: nurses and teachers, for example.

A couple of titles seem to be real stand-outs, and I certainly want to own them, when they come out on DVD. Like I said before, they cover many genres including action, comedy, and straight-up erotica. Also, included is a shot-on-vid short from the studio called Ryoko's Lesbian Flight, which is pretty sexy (at least lesbian stuff is anyway).

The linear notes from Behind the Pink Curtain author Jasper Sharp is very interesting and infromative. The picture quality is excellent and blows away ANY trailer collection, I have ever seen.

In all, fans of classic Japanese pink cinema should definitely pick this up. The amount of beautiful nude, sexually active Japanese girls should be enough of a reason for you to own this!

G4's The International Sexy Ladies Show

Last Monday was the return of one of my favorite TV shows, The International Ladies Show from G4! The concept of the show is simple enough. Clips of sexy babes from TV and videos from all over the world. Comedians chime in and make quirky and funny comments. We get clips from places like England, Italy, Japan, Korea, etc. It's genius I tell you!

This season we got clips from even more clips! As well favorites, of mine, like Italy's S.O.S. Patatas, where women, in the nude (!), help Italian men do work, returning. Of course, I love it when they have gravure stuff from Japan, like this goddess!

Here is another favorite, former Russian Olympic gold-medalist gymnast, Zlata. This girl is a contortionist and can twist into so many hot ways! Goddamn! Wish my waitress looked like this and could do this:

Sometimes when you clean you just get stuck on the floor:

Damn, now I know how to clean my house! Thanks England!

Yeah, this show fucking owns! From season one:

Watching this show makes me think, why does the US not have amazing programing on TV? And, how much is it to go to Japan or Korea?

Look you guys need to watch this. You won't regret! And, neither will your pants!

What I Have Learned About Traveling thanx to Horror and Explotation Films

While, horror and explotation films are full of the stuff you expect them to be, what you may not know is the fact that they teach us about travel! Really! Here are some chioce spots that I have learned to either aviod or visit thanx these films:

The Woods/ Camping- So, according to films like Friday the 13th, The Evil Dead, Sleepaway Camp, The Blair Witch Project, and Cabin Fever, we should never go camping or to the woods. Think about it. You might encounter crazy machete wielding women, their unstoppable psycho-hokey mask wearing son , get possessed by demons, a crazy transsexual , an evil old witch, or some foul flesh disease! Not only that but sex is a bad idea, cause even if the chick is smoking hot, you will fucking die! Bummer, man! To make a long story short, don't go to the woods or camp!

Japan- Seemingly Japan suffers a lot of attacks by giant monsters . I mean they fight and thrash the city and probably kill lots of people along the way. But, on the other side, films like The Machine Girl and Yo-Yo Girl Cop (not really an exploitation film but certainly a cult film) prove to me that I need to go there cause there is a shitload of hot chicks . So, i think I will risk the giant monsters and just go check out the hot babes!

Texas- Really, man, this is the last place you want your car to breakdown when heading out with your girl and/ or friends. Cause if this happens to you and your bros, a family of cannibals , including a dude who wears a mask made of human flesh who wields a chainsaw will catch you, kill you, and, possibly, eat you! Fucked up! Unless, of course, your goal in life is to be some chili!

That's it for now! In the future, I will review other travel spots based on what I have learned from watching way to many DVDs!
