Garden City Comic Fest: June 2025

Comic-book convention Garden City Comic Fest was held this past weekend of June 28th & 29th at the Essex Center Codey Arena in New Jersey. My friends and I went on Sunday the 29th. This is our first time attending it, and we had a blast!

The first of the two people I met that day was the lovely and multi-talented Jo Armeniox. She is an actress and voice over performer having appeared on Boardwalk Empire and done voices on Pokemon the Series: XY and XYZ as Shauna and Red Dead Redemption, among other projects. She was really sweet and down to earth in person.

I also met comic-book artist Nikkol Jelenic. She has done work for comic companies Top Cow, Marvel, and Dynamite. The later includes the covers for the horror/ fantasy franchise crossover Red Sonja Vs. the Army of Darkness. It's that that caught my eye at her booth. I picked up the first issue and got it signed by her. She was really cool and nice, in person (as well as being beautiful). I asked her if she was a fan of both. She said she was and that she only works on stuff she's a fan of. She also told me, that while she likes Red Sonja, she is more of an Army of Darkness fan. This only made her even more awesome in my book!

Being Sunday, there was probably less cosplay than the day before, but there was still some. Here are some of my favorites that I saw on this day:

If you are wondering why I didn't do any cosplay, this was honestly a last minute thing. And, also it was too hot. My anxiety would have killed me if I was all dressed up. As we had to walk to and from the venue from my friend's house. Anywho, I have four days in October to cosplay for NYCC.

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #30 (which was 50%)
G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #36 (which was in the $1 bin)

The reason that I go some of these great deals us cuz it was Sunday.

On a side note, I'm looking for old issues of the Marvel run of G.I. Joe or any of the trades that collect them. But, being low cash I don't have a lot to spend on them, so if you wanna help a brother out, or at least point me in the right direction, please don't hesitate. Thank you.

Anyway, we had a great time. I loved the way that it felt and looked like an old comic-book convention with celebs. That's something you don't see in NYC, really, so we loved it. And, will definitely be back for it next year!

NJ Horror Con: March 2019

On April 30, 2019, I made my first ever visit to New Jersey Horror Con at the Showboat hotel and casino in Atlantic City, NJ. This is a relatively new horror convention, only 4 years old, if I am not mistaken, that has rapidly gotten huge. They had some amazing guests, on this occasion, so two of my closest friends, Nelson and Freddie, and I headed out to have an awesome day of horror fun!

The first person that I went up to was Joe Bob Briggs. He has been a hero of mine and a huge influence on me and my writing, since I first read about him many years ago. I have been wanting to meet him for years, especially after his return with the now weekly series, The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs, currently airing Friday nights on Shudder. And, speaking of that awesome show, the gorgeous Darcy the Mail Girl was also there with him! I got to tell him what a hero of mine he is. My friend Freddie and I talked to the both of them for a few minutes. They are so nice and sweet in person, that they more than made my day. This for me is a highlight of the year!

The other highlight of the show, and the year, for me, came with the next person I met: Lea Thompson! The star of Tales from the Crypt, Back to the Future, Red Dawn, Howard the Duck, and more has been on my convention must meet list forever. She is, after all, one of my biggest childhood crushes. I told her that, and she was so sweet and all smiles! She even said that she liked my jacket (AKA my battle-jacket). That made my year! Thompson is still gorgeous in person and truly awesome to her fans.

Freddie and I went up to Frances Lee McCain, who played the mom in one of my favorite movies of all time: Gremlins! I told her and that it was a Christmas tradition for me to watch it every year during the holiday season. She was so nice and sweet in person!

I also went up to Harvey Spencer Stephens, who played Damien in The Omen. He clearly works out and is in great shape. He is also really nice in person. I got to tell him that that movie is one of my favorites of all time.

All three of us got a pic with Bob Camp, the legendary creator of Ren and Stimpy! He was fucking awesome in person and talked to us for a decent amount of time.

As an Aliens fan this was my favorite cosplay of the day!

At the convention I got:

80s Trailer Trauma 3: Horrothon on Blu-ray, which is the only one in the series that I am missing
and, a Funko Pop Motley Crue Vince Neil (on a side note, The Dirt is an awesome movie!)

NYCC 2017: Sat: Funko Pops and Best of Cosplay, Part 1

Saturdays at New York Comic Con are, rightfully, always known as the wildest, most busy, and most crowded. This Oct. 7, 2017, was no different. For me, it was also the earliest day that I had to be there. Having won one of the NYCC run lotteries that I entered, meant that I got a 9 AM slot to shop for exclusive Funko product. If you follow this blog or know me in real life, you know of my love for Pops. As such, I was so happy!

I got to pick-up three Pops for myself. They were: Flocked Beast-Man from Masters of the Universe, Flocked Lock-Jaw from Marvel's The Inhumans, and Old Man Logan from the X-Men. The only one I wanted that I could not get was director James Green. Despite being there as early I was, he STILL sold out right in front of me. That being said, I didn't get too pissed, as I got the rest and picked up some requested ones by my younger sister. Below, you will see my Pops I bought:

After my Pop buying adventure it was on to the con, as usual. This day marked the return of me as Punisher, but more on that in a future post. For now, here are some of my favorite cosplays of the day:
