During the events depicted in the current Marvel series, Axis, the Red Skull had been infused with mental powers of the deceased Professor X. To stop him Dr. Strange, Dr. Doom, and the Scarlett Witch used an inversion spell, but instead it affected the heroes and villains on the island who had teamed to battle the nefarious villain. Now, villains are trying to be heroic and vice versa. Enter Tony Stark billionaire genius and also known as the superhero, Iron Man, who is one of those affected.

He has become a huge (or some would argue turned into an even bigger) douchebag. He has given out his new extremis formula to the "beautiful people" for free, to keep them looking great. But, to remain so, they will have to pay him a price. The vigilante Daredevil has already seen the results of this and is not happy about it. On top of that his ego is even more enlarged, he is dealing out unnecessary levels of violence, and he's back to drinking heavily.

The writing by Taylor on this book is fast and fun. It's really a hoot to see Stark take his personality to the nth level and being the biggest dick that he can be. His interaction with his girlfriend Pepper is true highlight, and you wish she would just kick him in the balls. The ending is especially cool and has me pumped for the next issue.

Meanwhile, the art by Cinar is beautiful. He's great at drawing beautiful people, a must in this book and story. There are also a bunch of really cool and awesome looking variant covers. The one above by Fowler and Anderson is a great parody of the classic "Demon in a Bottle" The Invincible Iron Man cover from the 70s, while playing tribute to the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Be warned though, neither Rocket Raccoon nor Groot are in this book.

That being said, what a fun, interesting, and exciting start to a new Iron Man book. I don't know how long this version of Stark will last. But, for now seeing him think he is so superior, makes for a must read.

Fine review! I'm definitely digging these comic posts!

Some of these AXIS tie-ins are definitely sounding like fun! And I'm definitely curious to see how Apocalypse will play into the main comic.

Thank you, Chris, glad you're enjoying my comic book reviews! :)

& agreed, Axis is that rare comic book crossover that works and is a thoroughly fun read. I, too, can't wait to see what Apocalypse will do!
